In recent years I have pivoted towards "me-search" by focusing on disability identity and mental health. While I have so valued the community of disabled researchers and scholars I have partnered with, I also feel this stigma and judgment. See the article below to understand why.

I haven't been very active on here but I wanted to share that I've transitioned into the role of Assistant Professor @WashUPain in @WashUanesthesia @WUSTLmed! So thrilled to focus on helping people with pain and others with mental health concerns back in my hometown.

For years, researchers say it was difficult to study health inequities that people with disabilities experience, because the way this population was classified by the NIH limited access to funding. Now, that's changed: washingtonpost.com/wellness/…

Ableism in academia and research is pervasive! "I think it was hard for them [HHMI] to imagine that someone with a disability could do outstanding work in science,” says @Vivian_Cheung2 @washingtonpost washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/…

“The United States has always been a terrible place to be sick and disabled. Ableism is baked into our myths of bootstrapping and self-reliance, in which health is virtue and illness is degeneracy. It is long past time for a bedrock shift, for all of us.” - @MillerMadeline

The #ADA was signed 33 years ago. We can spend a moment honoring this legislation and those that gave so much to get it passed. But after all of these years, I can't fly without risking my body or wheelchair. And people with disabilities can't marry without losing their benefits.

In banning affirmative action, the Supreme Court has *not* banned using race in college admissions. "Race neutral" is a legal fantasy, the latest to conserve racism. As Uma Jayakumar and I write @TheAtlantic, “race neutral” is the new “separate but equal.” theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…
