STOP. THIS. SHIT.
Calley Means just called kratom a โstraight up opioidโ and โgas station heroinโ on @joerogan, claiming itโs causing deaths, relapses, and โdevastation.โ
@calleymeans is mixing up two completely different things.
Natural kratom leaf (Mitragyna speciosa) is not heroin. Its primary alkaloid, mitragynine, is a partial mu-opioid agonist with a ceiling effect and G-protein bias โ it doesnโt act like a full agonist such as morphine or fentanyl. Trace amounts of 7-OH occur naturally in the leaf after harvest (typically well under 0.04% by weight). It has been used for centuries in traditional preparations.
What regulators are actually targeting is concentrated/synthetic 7-OH products โ chemically boosted or isolated versions sold as gummies, shots, and tablets that are far more potent and opioid-like.
In the exact press conference Means references, former FDA Commissioner @MartyMakary and HHS officials were explicit:
โWeโre not targeting the kratom leaf or ground-up kratom. We are targeting the concentrated, synthetic byproduct that is an opioid.โ
โThey bear no resemblance to botanical kratom that people have consumed for centuries.โ
Full press conference: youtube.com/watch?v=ChOICFOnโฆ
Most reported โkratom-relatedโ deaths involve polydrug use (especially fentanyl and other opioids). Pure leaf has a different risk profile.
Facts over fearmongering.
If youโre tired of the misinformation, share this so the facts reach more people.

It cannot be produced without chemical synthesis in any commercially viable quantity. Every milligram in a 7-OH product exceeding natural levels on the market is produced via synthesis. and DEA has given Notice of Intent to schedule them as early as next Friday.

7-OH is not kratom. It is a synthetic derivative the DEA has already given Notice of Intent to schedule.

STOP conflating botanical kratom with 7oh products!
STOP conflating botanical kratom with ANY other synthetic OR semisynthetic product!

I canโt get behind online-only despite those often being better retailers/products.
That would be more restrictive than cannabis, tobacco, and alcohol on principle.
It ignores the pain patient whose prescriber or pharmacy tells them to kick rocks at 5:30 on a Friday afternoon (which happened to me).
It ignores low income folks without stable residency or banking, and who often depend on public transit so even local sales prohibition affects them more than one who can drive two towns over.
It ignores the addict who in a dry spell or other circumstances uses it as a stopgap and with that success sees a pathway to non-use or safer replacement.
It ignores opportunities for dispensary models or kava/kratom bars that are 18/21 at the door. These can benefit non-drinkers. Ignores natural/botanical living stores.
Is expensive for shipping larger purchases or liquid products.

I want to caution people about going on the highly addictive opioid,
Suboxone to come off kratom.
Kratom is a plant.
Why are we putting people on an opioid that rots the teeth to get them off a plant?

In legitimate public health, a cause creates legal cases. In the mass-tort intake economy, it works in reverse.
Look closely at the graphic recently shared on LinkedIn by Michael Templeton, CEO of Barrister Intelligence. It is a direct plaintiff-recruitment ad for the Simon Law Firm asking: "Suffered Loss, Injury or Addiction from Kratom products? Call the Simon Law Firm."
Printed right at the bottom of the ad is the firm's slogan: "Where Cases Become Causes."
Read that again. The lawsuit comes first; the "public health cause" is the marketing strategy.
Templetonโs post puts the entire closed-loop economy on the public record in a single screenshot:
Renting the Badge: Templeton leads with his backgroundโ"The Barrister Intelligence team includes former DEA Special Agents"โto lend federal law-enforcement authority to a private law firm's client-acquisition campaign.
The 120-Platform Harvesting Funnel: By its own account, Barrister Intelligence sells social-media intelligence drawn from over 120 platforms to trial lawyers.
The Advocacy Collusion: In the exact same post soliciting wrongful-death and injury lawsuits, Templeton explicitly tags the "grassroots" prohibition group End Kratom Addiction alongside the hashtags #kratom, #7oh, and #mgm15.
While federal regulators and scientists draw a clear line between Schedule I synthetic adulterants (like MGM-15 and pseudoindoxyl) and natural botanical kratom leaf, the litigation machine deliberately collapses them into one word.
Why? Because nuance ruins the lawsuit. You cannot sue a complex toxicology report, and you cannot build a mass tort on a 90% occluded coronary artery or a 3,000 ng/mL Benadryl overdose. You can only sue a slogan.
See the receipt and examine the closed-loop litigation network:
