It's so great to have sport and physical activity make it into the titles of our provincial and federal ministers!
In the last 3 months the word “sport” was put into an Alberta Ministry. Hooray @ABTourismSport.
Also “Physical Activity” is now in the title of a Federal Ministry. Hooray @CQualtro.
Just the beginning as sport and physical activity are recognized as key drivers to wellness.

Opinion: It’s time Alberta got in the wellness game
Albertans pay double what other Canadians do for their families to hit the ice, learn to swim, or join a softball team because, despite being the country’s wealthiest province, we have the lowest per capita spending from the government on sport, physical activity, and recreation (SPAR) – by a long shot.

A Ministry of Wellness with 1% of the Health budget can:
- support access to sport, physical activity and rec opportunities for all.
- build social connections and positive mental health programs
- ensure wellbeing is foundational to learning in schools. #abelxn #AbElection2023

What if one percent of the #Alberta Ministry of Health budget went to keeping people healthy. It would be the the how of "fixing health care". Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation are key drivers to good mental and physical health. Ask your candidates. #abelxn23 #abpoli
If sport, physical activity and recreation (SPAR) are important to you, check out the SPAR Matters website at sparmatters.ca for resources & action steps you can take to advocate for SPAR!
