So proud my student got interviewed... and displayed a really good analysis of HE issues in both countries! “The French and English universities are like two different sides of the spectrum – a middle ground would be great,” said Lois. thenorthernquota.org/2026/10…

£77.5m spent. £14m back. The VC behind it traded up to Leeds and a £330k salary. The staff left behind are being told to pay with their jobs. That's why we're on strike at Nottingham.
In 2021, the Uni of Nottingham spent £37.5 million buying a new campus, in central Nottingham. They then spent £40 million developing it. It is expected to be sold for £14 million. Shearer West, former Vice Chancellor moved on to Leeds in 2024. She was paid £300k+.

Nottingham was 6th for modern languages in the 2021 REF and is the only university in East Midlands providing language courses. The closure of an objectively brilliant department by a Russell Group university raises questions about the 2015 decision to uncap student numbers and leave UK HE provision entirely to market forces timeshighereducation.com/new…

“People who work in universities are feeling absolutely betrayed by being dragged into this conversation as if their contribution is not recognised.” Migrant staff put down roots, build lives and make an enormous contribution to our universities and communities. Their right to remain should not be treated as a political football.

The past decade has seen a dramatic rise in teaching-only roles in the UK, particularly outside the sciences. But does that amount to a welcome focus on education or a cost-saving wheeze that constricts the pipeline of research talent? Juliette Rowsell reports timeshighereducation.com/dep…

“Management calls it change. We call it making staff and students pay the price.” University of Brighton management wants longer hours, more working weeks and fundamentally worse conditions for staff. Now it is trying to rip up UCU’s recognition agreement to force its agenda through. The entire trade union movement must stand against this attack. BACK DOWN.

The rain didn’t stop us. Today we stood proud against the University of Brighton’s outrageous threat to derecognise UCU. We will not let our members’ rights be trampled on. Like and share to stand with our members and send management a message: BACK DOWN.

“Reform are fuelled by total and utter division.” @DrJoGrady last night on sky. Anti-LGBT+. Anti-university. Anti-NHS. And now, it seems, anti-veteran. Division isn’t a side effect of Reform’s politics. It’s the point.
