A team of researchers from Purdue University has traveled to the remote, uninhabited island of Nikumaroro to inspect a submerged object spotted via satellite imagery. Utilizing marine sonar and magnetometers, the team hopes to determine within days whether the site holds the remains of Amelia Earhart's 1937 plane, all while camping aboard their ship to avoid the island's massive coconut crabs.
