No player has ever scored in seven straight World Cup games. Messi just did it off the bench, against Jordan, in the 80th minute, burying a free kick like the moment wasn't even big to him. Everybody on the TL knows I support Argentina to lift the trophy back to back, but this isn't loyalty talking. The numbers back it up. That wasn't even Argentina's best XI either. Nine changes and they still won 3-1, closing the group with a perfect record, 8 goals scored, 1 conceded. Depth, form, and the best player in the tournament all lined up at once. And when asked about playing in 2030, Messi stayed deliberately vague, no promises, just "I'm focused on the present." That tells me everything: he's playing this one like it could be his last, and that urgency shows on the pitch. Cape Verde is next, and their story is beautiful on its own, first ever World Cup, unbeaten through the group on pure defensive heart. But this Argentina squad isn't just trying to get past one round, they're building toward lifting it again in New Jersey. I've opened my position on Argentina to win the World Cup back to back. Reigning champions, defending the title, Messi playing like a man who knows this might be his last shot at it.
