Market Report 10-28-2026: The End of "Stroke of the Pen..." Politics After the blatant anti-democratic activities of Brazil's authorities to ensure Lula's 4th term in office, it's becoming increasingly obvious that we are living through the final stages of the old institutional order. Bibi Netanyahu clings to a fading hope, now that it's time for him to exit the stage. Those obsessed with staying in power no matter how they do it, no matter how tyrannical, continue to be forced to show that part of themselves while simultaneously blaming those that oppose them. It's like the abuser screaming at the abused, "Now look at what you made me do," as they beat them with a rolling pin. That's our politics today. And the cavalier attitude to this type of corruption is still embodied, in my mind, fully by the original mask-off moment by Clintonista strategist Paul Begala saying out loud, "Stroke of the pen, law of the land... kinda cool." There was no moment in back then that galvanized the emerging political side of me then that seeing Begala say that. The contempt with which he held the people he was charged with ruling over, the childishness he exuded, was beneath contempt. No different than what we see today from the purity-spiraling moralizers on the left and the right, claiming a moral high ground they don't even believe in while proclaiming everyone else is corrupt. It's pathetic. But more importantly, it's ultimately cowardice. Because that moral preening is nothing more than the unwillingness to get their hands dirty actually doing something tangible to improve the lives of those around them... and that's the most generous read, when the more cynical one (and likely more accurate) is that they are paid enablers of the very people they profess to be fighting. They are forever critics sitting on their hands, while the world continues to evolve with or without them. That's the bad news. The good news is that with each stroke of the pen, the people say even more, "not law of the land." And that's what's really "kinda cool." Mid-terms in a week. FOMC today.
