Hey folks 👋🏻 JD tuning-in from 37,000 ft onboard @VirginAtlantic VS117 ‘Billie Holiday’ to Miami for our first Member’s Show of 2024. It’s -63 outside, a little colder than on the ground but we still needed a decent coating of hot Type 1 fluid from the deice teams at @HeathrowAirport 🥶. SHOW ALERT 🚨 🔔 Join us live tomorrow morning for another milestone to catch the @etihad @AirbusintheUK A380 Quadjet A6-APG back to @HeathrowAirport after a three year absence. Arrival time is scheduled for 06:45BST. Arrivals will be on the Southern, although at that time of the morning, ATC bring them in two-wide, so it’s a bit of a gamble for positioning. But as Etihad park at T4, I’m hoping our friends at @NATS will bring her in on 27L 🙏🏻 😉 So our best bet, and to get a good look at her on the ground/taxi, will be to position ourselves at our exclusive location on the @HGI. BOSH! A350 HARD LANDING 😮 CX239 from Hong Kong smokes the mains on Rwy 27L during crosswinds at London Heathrow. Watch as the opposite inertia kicks the 230 tonne flying machine all over the place. A real battle between pilot and machine to get that thing straightened up with the rudder - Pilot won it 💪🏻 The direction that thing was facing once they’d caught it, I seriously thought they would Go-Around. Pilots were saying after the show, and I completely understand, that ‘this footage doesn’t replicate the turbulence we experience in the last 2 miles of approach’. I’ve been a passenger during strong winds on approach. Seeing the wing flexing and the flight surfaces going crazy, I imagine the pilots up-front in complete calm: Aircraft crabbing, NFP calling-out the numbers, picking their moment to go manual, one hand on the Thrust Levers, expecting those last-second gusts. Even during a landing like this, you’d be surprised to see just how calm the pilots are when it’s all going-on Get involved ✍️

Another sad moment today as G-VROY ‘Pretty Woman’ @VirginAtlantic 747 departs @manairport. This time it’s Captain Karl Wort at the controls, pulling-off another classic wave. Thanks again to the friendly Manchester locals and the authorities, both sides of the fence. #AvGeek
