Texas continues to attract major investment in emerging industries, including data infrastructure and advanced technology. Projects of this scale require long-term planning, regulatory clarity, and confidence that disputes will be resolved fairly and predictably. A stable legal system plays an important role in supporting that environment.

The rise of external memory (writing, computers) shifted how modern humans memorize, or really don’t, things compared to the ancients. No one is forming memory palaces or internalizing long epics anymore. Interesting to think what the rise of external thinking will do to us.

Good piece. Near term impact on oil outside of headlines is minimal. Best case with a stable regime will take years to recover. By then, the world will need it.

Around 15 years ago we were the laughing stock of the MLB, I never imagined anything close to a run like this Despite it ending, I can proudly say I never took it for granted. Thank you for what was probably the best run any MLB team will ever have in our lifetime @Astros

Everyone knows the Manhattan Project. But NO ONE remembers the OTHER secret project that helped win WWII. It wasn’t built in a lab. It was built with welders, bulldozers, and 1,400 miles of steel. It moved oil NOT uranium. And in just 350 days—under the threat of Nazi U-boats—a pipeline was laid from Texas to New Jersey to fuel the Allied victory. No headlines. No glory. Just good ole' American resolve. This is the forgotten story of the Big Inch Pipeline—the industrial twin of the Manhattan Project. Massive kudos to my friend and teammate Grant Brown for unearthing and storytelling one of the greatest engineering feats in modern history on The Industrialist. You’ll want to read this. 👇

Today the most consequential jurist in Texas history retires. The iconic Chief Justice @NathanLHecht built a sterling, 43-year judicial legacy. NLH = the GOAT, the best of us, a Mount Rushmore figure in the life & law of Texas. The Lone Star State owes him an unpayable debt. 🐐⚖️

1/ It’s going to be a wild ride for executive power during Trump 2.0. Here is a quick list of important issues where executive power is likely to be pushed hard, rethought, resisted, and/or, when possible, litigated. What am I missing?

The energy industry lost a legend this week, and I lost a great friend. I want everyone in energy to hear this message about Scott Gale and how he tackled life. The work that we do to power the world is extremely important and you should be proud that you play a part in that. Onward 🫡

I just found out that we have an unreleased video on Autry Stephens and how he built his $26 billion empire. In light of his passing, today seems like a good time for you to hear the story of one of the greatest oilmen of all time.

Six days after Beryl, this is somehow still the situation in Houston. We joined the impacted yesterday as we suddenly lost power 5 days after the storm, 24 hours without power now. This was just a Cat 1. This needs to be a wake up call for @CenterPoint and our government leaders.

There's a lot of nuance between bootstrapping startups versus raising capital. But one thing I've learned first-hand is that raising capital is a massive point of leverage if you operate in an industry where others can't raise. Here is how I think about it:

We are entering a growth paradigm for electricity markets that the US hasn’t experienced in almost a generation and it’s going to change everything about how those markets work.
"McKinsey, BCG and S&P Global Commodity Insights all project electricity demand tied to data centers to increase at a compound annual growth rate of between 13% and 15% through 2030." "Any company that is net long power—that is, those that have more capacity to sell power than the obligation to buy power (say, on behalf of retail energy customers)—are bound to experience tailwinds as power demand rises" Lifting IPP/utility stocks.

Congrats to @fervoenergy for the huge progress made in bringing next-gen geothermal to market. There is huge demand for clean, affordable 24/7 power. Geothermal has a foreseable path to be a material part of US energy supply. I'm excited to participate in their recent fundraise.

Some exciting @fervoenergy news. We’ve raised a new $244m funding round from leading investors to accelerate development of next-generation geothermal. Demand for 24/7 carbon free energy has never been more urgent, and we’re ready to meet the challenge. fervoenergy.com/fervo-energy…

Another story: "Lauren Collins, tax partner at Vinson & Elkins, said the law firm saw an avalanche of interest in corporate transfer deals, clinching more than $1bn worth of transactions last year. Keith Martin, co-head of projects at Norton Rose Fulbright, closed 14 tax credit transfers last year that were each worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He expects tax credit sales to become a staple financing tool."
"Congress created the tax credit transfer program for renewable-energy companies in the 2022 climate law. About 100 companies pursuing more than 1,000 clean-energy projects have indicated they plan to sell tax credits in the new market... Total transactions from the market likely totaled between $7 billion and $9 billion last year and are expected to rise soon into the tens of billions... new deals typically take three to eight weeks to complete, down from four months, for tax equity" wsj.com/us-news/climate-envi…
