What has happened to Charlie Kirk is horrific and heartbreaking. My heart goes out to his family and the country. He may have had different politics, but we cared about the same game. His attack hurts our ability to come together as a country.

On the eve of a crucial House markup, Instagram decided to implement baseline safeguards it should’ve undertaken a decade ago. Timing of this is nothing but convenient. We cannot keep waiting for these companies’ better angels to decide to act, we need laws that compel them to.

What a powerful piece illustrating the too often dangerous dynamics at play as people and children experience the online spaces social media companies offer us today. Thank you for sharing your story with us. @LauraLThornton

Musk claims to be charging for the blue checks in order to tame bots/trolls, but ISD's research shows that this may very well do the opposite as people will struggle navigating an already saturated online environment. @JioreC talks to @BBCr4today about it. isdglobal.org/isd-in-the-new…
Brilliant analysis from @followlori on Brazil and the need to take a critical view toward tech and media to enable democratic discourse.
For @techpolicypress, I wrote about the information crisis at the core of January 8th violent attacks against Brazilian Democracy. From media concentration to disinformation at scale, like other democracies Brazil faces its own history. Key points bellow++ techpolicy.press/january-8-a…
For ISD's Jan 6 anniversary series, @CecileNSimmons @rheabhatnagar_ & I overview how we see election denial show up online in elections around the world and the conditions that lead it to do damage or fall flat.

It's a mixed bag on how people respond to election denial content put in their feeds depending on their perception of and trust in accountability, but in every case we've researched, people saw that content in their feed bc platform product features gave it a big ol' boost.
Trump isn’t an effective strategy for winning elections. So much conspiracy momentum from 2020 was squandered making the whole story about one man’s failed election. Good for grifting, good for radicalizing but ultimately too out of touch to get races over the line.
