Holy basil might be the most underrated adaptogen for cortisol. Here’s what the research actually shows. 🧵 I’ve been drinking tulsi (holy basil) for years. I drank it almost every day during my years working as a clinical dietitian. I write about cortisol for a living, and this herb still earns a spot in my cupboard. I just updated my holy basil guide with the newest research. The key findings: 🧠 Stress: In an 8-week randomized, placebo-controlled trial, 100 stressed adults took 250 mg a day of a standardized holy basil extract. Their perceived stress dropped more than with placebo. 📉 Cortisol: Hair cortisol was markedly lower at week 8, and salivary cortisol spiked less during a lab stress test. 🌙 Sleep: Insomnia scores improved too. Fair caveat: the Fitbit data didn’t confirm it, so the benefit so far is based on how people felt. 🩸 Blood sugar: Small human trials show lower fasting and after-meal glucose. What I like most: holy basil tends to feel clarifying rather than sedating. It’s my pick for daytime stress, when I need to focus rather than wind down. ⚠️ Who should skip it: • Anyone pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive (animal studies show anti-fertility effects) • Anyone on blood thinners, diabetes meds, or thyroid meds without their provider’s OK And my usual reminder: test, not guess. If your cortisol already runs low in the afternoon, a cortisol-lowering herb isn’t automatically the answer. In the full guide: dosing from the studies, tea vs. tincture vs. capsules, how to grow your own, and the tulsi brands I actually use. 👇 thehealthyrd.com/10-best-hol… #TheHealthyRD #holybasil #tulsi #cortisol #adaptogens

My Anti-Inflammatory Diet isn’t about restriction or short-term results. It’s a way of eating designed to reduce chronic inflammation and support long-term health. I emphasize whole, fresh foods—an abundance of fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, quality protein, and a wide variety of nutrient-dense choices—while minimizing processed and fast foods. This approach provides a strong foundation for lifelong well-being. Link in bio to learn more. #AntiInflammatoryDiet #HealthyEating #WholeFoods #NourishYourBody

True healthcare starts with addressing the root cause, not masking symptoms with prescriptions. If your doctor isn’t asking about your diet, sleep, exercise, hydration, or stress, you’re not getting healthcare—you’re getting disease management. It’s time to demand better. Reminder: It’s important to hydrate even in the winter! Staying hydrated isn’t just a summer thing ❄️💧 Cold weather reduces thirst, but your body still loses water through breathing and dry air. Proper hydration supports energy, immunity, and skin health all winter long. Drink up!

Interested in healthy aging and longevity? New data shows a link between eating eggs and a 47% reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease. 90% of Americans are not getting enough of the nutrient choline. Choline in eggs (one of the highest sources of choline) is a neurotransmitter essential for memory, mood, and muscle control. Therefore, ensuring adequate choline intake can support cognitive functions and may help in preventing certain neurological disorders along with optimizing health. In this study, the researchers attribute the potential brain benefits of eggs to the choline in egg yolks. It's been known that the nutrient choline found in egg yolks, is associated with a slower rate of memory decline. This new study is even further confirmation. “Two eggs per day is the goal for meeting recommendations for choline and other key nutrients for brain health,” study investigator Taylor Wallace, PhD, CEO at Think Healthy Group and an adjunct nutrition professor at Tufts University. This level has been shown to be unarguably safe in clinical studies, even in those with diabetes and those with or at-risk for cardiometabolic disease.” pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3878…
