I'm just glad I don't live in a dictatorship but a free democracy where every few years I can vote for a different banker or lawyer or landlord that represents the vast network of powerful corporate interests that controls every aspect of my life from cradle to grave

I wish more people understood that disability is universal. You will experience disability at some point in your life, whether from accident, illness, old age, or even temporary disability. Please advocate for accessibility because it literally benefits everyone.

A lot of "mental health issues" disappear when bills are paid, rent is secure, and the fridge is full. Peace is expensive. And pretending money doesn't affect mental health is privilege.

.@Neal_Compass: "I couldn't live on the meagre benefits people are getting. To suggest that we have to cut those.. actually that's where the engine of growth is, that's the people who spend.. how do you get people out spending.. not by cutting benefits of people at the bottom"

The Jeremy Vine formula is so predictable at this point.
1. Find an extreme quote to make people furious about welfare.
2. Immediately follow it up by asking if we should slash benefits.
It's not a debate, it's just conditioning the public to agree to cuts. 🔄 @theJeremyVine

36,000 out of 9,000,000 school children are Jewish

Where are the special protections against racism, ablism & islamophobia?

Can anyone remember the last time @BBCNews interviewed a Palestinian about their experience of the racism of Zionism? Having spent the last two weeks interviewing elderly Nakba survivors in Jordan, driven off their land in their teens because of their ethnicity and religion, I'd be happy to suggest some astonishingly articulate victims of Israeli racism who would be only too happy to tell their tragic stories of eviction, slaughter and dispossession. It is like reporting on the Civil Rights movement in the US and only interviewing outraged Whites

The media are in full attack mode against the disabled, neurodiverse and mentally ill.
These rags are despicable.

You can buy books from Ian Brady, Charles Bronson, and the Kray twins in the UK, but you can't buy books from Sally Rooney because she opposes Israel's genocide.
She should've done something respectable like serial killing and her books would be fine.

It's not your 'success' were complaining about. That's defensive framing to make us look 'envious'.
1. Shit wages
2. Exploitative work conditions
3. Market sector monopolisation
4. High street decline
5. Tax avoidance
6. Political interference

Privatisation in a nutshell:
1) Steal from us something we own.
2) Sell us back an inferior service
3) Charge us a higher price.
The pattern is the same everywhere: royal mail, water, railways, the NHS, public services, council services…
Failures of privatisation.
Royal Mail to cut up to 2,500 jobs
RM doesn't meet letter delivery targets. Regulator keeps lowering them
Postage: 1st class, £1.80, 2nd class 91p.
When privatized in 2013: 1st class 60p; 2nd 50p.
Poor service, triple price.

Just so you know:
If someone has a chronic illness, but they carefully manage it so that you can see no signs of the chronic illness, they still have a chronic illness.

This news doesn't make sense. @andyburnham vowed to end homelessness & ruled out crude cuts.
Many with severe mental health issues survive on:
• UC + LCWRA: £10,256.40/yr
• PIP Mobility: £1,575.60/yr
• Total: £11,841/yr
Cutting these vital lifelines will drive up homelessness
EXCL: Ministers are working up sweeping plans for welfare changes including scrapping key disability benefit for under-25s & replacing it with multibillion pound package of support to get into work.
Whitehall sources said changes under debate were much bigger than previously thought, as Andy Burnham’s government hopes to persuade more people on benefits back into work.
But the move could be fraught with political danger after last year’s dramatic welfare rebellion by Labour MPs. Ministers have spent weeks trying to persuade them the plans are about reform not cuts & feel confident opposition has waned.

Remember folks,
Labour was formed to represent the working class, not working people.
The working class includes those too young, ill, or disabled to work, it also includes the elderly.

Chancellor John Healey says: “It’s not progressive to accept a bigger and bigger benefits bill.”
Bigger by what measure?
As a share of GDP, welfare spending has remained broadly similar over the past 25 years. The OBR puts it at 10.9% in 2025–26, within the 10.5–12% range it describes for the late 1990s and early 2000s.
There has been a recent rise, especially in health and disability support. That deserves an honest discussion about why more people need help.
But Healey’s sweeping line invites people to blame claimants for an ever-growing bill, without explaining that the total includes the state pension or putting the figures in context.
Why is a Labour Chancellor borrowing the language of the populist right?

This chart published by the Economics Laboratory, shows that the UK social spending is 23% of GDP, covers NHS, social security and support services.
It is a useful rebutal to neoliberals calling for cuts to the NHS, state pension and other benefits.

Andrew Neil, "The big problem we face is 6.7 million adults of working, who aren't working, and living on out of work benefits" #BBCQT
My view: Andrew Neil’s 6.7 million figure is real, but it does not mean 6.7 million people are able to work and choosing benefits.
Of those 6.7 million, 4.6 million, 68%, are not required to look for work, mainly because they are ill, disabled or caring for young children.
Of the remaining 2.2 million, many have health conditions that limit what work they can do.
Only 71,000 are on Jobseeker’s Allowance.
So using the 6.7 million total to imply Britain is full of workshy people is simply wrong.
