Content-first design is how-it-works-first design. Don't think about how it looks until you've nailed how it works.

Content designer: I don't want to put the meaning in the box. We don't need the box. Whole-ass org: It puts the meaning in the box or it gets the hose again.

Hey guess what's true again this year, @figmadesign!? You guessed it: no UX content title options.
Just signing up for Config and saddened to see 3 different types of designer — and absolutely no UX writer or content strategist listed in the role dropdown. Many of us love you, @figmadesign. Bummer to see the sentiment is one-way only

Maybe it's just me, but in the age of disinformation, integrating AI into search seems like the ... worst possible way to use it?

Maybe it's not so much that "nobody reads" as it is, "we're bad at presenting information clearly *and* equally bad at taking it in"

So far, text-gen AI just feels a lot like distributed plagiarism

I don't know who needs to hear this but sketching is a less inclusive activity than you think

To poet is to literally be ex stasis, to engage in life, to be always moved and moving, via this incessant and ever-complicating collection and reflection
Poetry is hard work but can be ecstatic: I try to teach my students making as/is an ongoing act that extends far off the page and into and out into the daily world. It is collecting. Noticing. Gathering. A few words. Something heard. A slip of memory. Shards of verbs.

It's deeply sad that business leaders continue to confuse foundational work with easy layoffs
Members of Twitter's ethical AI team learned they had been laid off early this morning, according to tweets by those affected. Twitter's ML Ethics, Transparency & Accountability team has been responsible for studying algo decisionmaking, building AI fairness tools & more. (1/6)

+1. Genuinely some of the most interesting and tangibly impactful content work I've seen.

Every website should have a text-only version
We have a text-only version of our website for anyone who needs to stay up-to-date on Hurricane Ian and keep their battery and data usage to a minimum: text.npr.org

The school in St. Louis had metal detectors. Police said the doors were locked. There were armed guards inside the school. Two people are dead. Republicans will tell you the solution is somehow more guns. On Nov 8, you need to tell them they’re full of shit.

Here's the thing about "content design" as a title: It creates understanding thru established equivalency, i.e., by leveraging existing mental models That's *great*. Classic content thinking at its finest. The problem?

One does not simply "design content." One designs "how people think about — and therefore use — products" We're product strategists. Specialization: mental models.

Because we don't just use tools with our hands/mouses/voice/keyboard. First and foremost, we use them with our mental models. That's how we know we can't just whack everything with a hammer.
