A Japanese whisky kinda night. From L to R: Karuizawa 1971 vintage bottled in 2008, Hakushu 15 yr old (purchased at the distillery in 2006), and a Yamazaki 2016 Edition Sherry Cask. Three incredible whiskies. Practicing what I preach. Drink your special whiskies while you can.

A delicious Springbank 21 yr. old distilled before it was mothballed in the 1980s, and a single cask bottling of Longrow (the peated Springbank) distilled in 1974 (bottled in 1992). There's a special place in my heart for Springbank since my first visit there in 1991.🥃

Time to open up a “new” Ardbeg. Distilled in 1975, bottled in 1999. I guess I’ve waited long enough to open it lol. It’s 70 cl, so not a US release. Strangely, it doesn’t have an ABV level on the label. Tastes like a straight bourbon barrel aged Ardbeg. It’s working 🥃

Going old school and popping the top on this Ancient Ancient Age (aka Triple A) 10 year old bourbon, distilled at the then Ancient Age Distillery (now Buffalo Trace). Numerical mark on the bottom of the bottle says "92," so... there's a clue on when it was bottled. 🥃

Opening this very special Balvenie "Offspring," debuted at the WhiskyFest Weekend NYC in October 2013. Malt master David Stewart called it "Offspring" because he hand-selected three specific casks that perfectly matched the birth years of his three children: Drinking history . 🥃

I just realized that I don't have an opened bottle of Caol Ila. (How did that happen?) I'm thinking about one of these two. Perhaps the Cadenhead's 1978 vintage on the right, because it was from a single cask? (And yes, I think that the label is pretty cool too.) Thoughts?

Celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary, I thought I'd open up something special: a cask strength 51% Paul-Marie et Fils Cognac "Devant La Porte," rumored to be distilled in 1951. Regardless, it's really a treat to enjoy such a delicious, very mature, vibrant, complex cognac.

I'm still getting belated birthday wishes, so I though it would only be appropriate to open a belated birthday whisky! This 30 y/o Talisker, bottled in 2010 at 57.3% will suffice. Surprisingly fresh for its age, with toffee, brine, peaty bonfire smoke, and a peppery finish.🥃

I couldn't decide which whisky to open on my birthday, so I did the only logical thing and opened both of them! The Macallan 25 year old Anniversary Malt, distilled in 1974 and bottled in 1999, and Lagavulin 21 year old sherry cask aged, distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2012. 🥃

Birthday week whisky celebration continues. Linkwood is such a delicious whisky, and so many people have never even heard of the distillery. The 37 year old, which was distilled in 1978 is a beauty. Definitely worthy of a birthay celebration so I opened it 🥃

Popping the top on another whisky to celebrate my upcoming birthday on Sunday. Tonight I’m going old school, opening my Dalmore 30 year old bottled quite a while ago. I’m glad I did. It’s worthy of a birthday celebration. Life is short. Make an ordinary day a special day. 🥃

Celebrating my birthday this coming Sunday by opening up a new bottle of something special every night. Starting with the Mount Gay Tricentennial Selection Rum bottled back in 2003. One of the best rums I've ever had. Life is short friends. Make every day special in your own way.

Last day of fishing before heading back to PA for some condo repairs. Yesterday‘s striper was for dinner. This one was just for fun. It’s actually too big to keep!! Just shy of 3 feet long. Back in the water to swim another day. Cheers friends!

The bad news: our AC died on us and needs to be replaced. The good news: I caught dinner!

In 2003, Mount Gay Rum celebrated their Tricentenary with this special release. I was writing about all spirits at the time, met with the brand manager, and we tasted it together. It was delicious! I bought a bottle. Time to open it. Still delicious. Cheers friends.

When you've got some special bottles of whisky that are running low, you invite a couple of whisky friends over to finish the bottles. We don't want them to oxidize now, do we? Cheers!

I don’t always drink a whisky distilled more than 70 years ago. This 1955 Talisker is fantastic! Life is short friends. Make an ordinary day a special day in your own way. 🥃
