The 2027 NFL Draft Class looks really poor at the top. Over the last 12 years that I have been evaluating college players, I have graded 17.9 prospects on average as blue chip, "A-tier" prospects per class. This year, I only have ten in that category:

Al Golden has evolved Cincinnati’s defense by pairing heavy Cover 1 usage with a unique pivot to rotational split-field shells (Cover 6/8). In Base, Golden calls Cover 6 (QQH) with a boundary "Fist" check (2-Man) to wall the run, layer the intermediate, and bracket early-down play-action shots. In Nickel, he flips to Cover 8 (HQQ) to roll Cover 2 over the Nickel (D. Hill), capping the Slot while the backside Safety plays "poach." The Bengals were dead last in Slot DVOA in '25. Structure protects the DBs; rotation kills the early down play-action. My breakdown on Al Golden’s evolution is only on MatchQuarters: matchquarters.com/p/al-golde… --

the Dolphins offense has a different run package every week they like to get to. This week they were getting in on the offset back formations. Counter, Duo, and WR Counter getting run here. Nice change of attack points and angles for the defense to deal with.
really like how the 49ers used Draw action here, even when getting to a non-true Draw run. Does a nice job of playing off the RB motion and offset formation. Draws have had success against the Seahawks defense over the past couple of seasons (watch the Safeties at the snap).

Idk about that man, he's clearly limping out there.
Now coming from Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport on the #Cowboys and Josh Sweat: “One team that could explore the possibility of a [Josh] Sweat trade is the Cowboys, who are trying to salvage their season Monday night in Philadelphia.” #DallasCowboys

So awesome to see Maliek Collins still thriving. Part of the iconic 2016 Dallas Cowboys draft class.
The #Browns and standout DT Maliek Collins have agreed to terms on a 2-year extension for $30M with $23M in total guarantees, agent Drew Rosenhaus tells me and @AdamSchefter.

.@fishsports (on Cowboys receivers): “Are guys running routes as crisply as you wish they were? @TroyAikman: No, and they haven’t in a while. I won’t name names, but there’s one particular player, I was embarrassed. It’s the worst performance I’ve ever seen from a receiver on a football field.”

i asked Christian Parker if he'd consider moving Marist Liufau back to ILB — also to aid with depth — when he's cleared. 👀 in 2026 training camp, i posted on X/Twitter that the #Cowboys would line him up at OLB but he'd drop back to ILB at times, post-snap; and Parker alluded to that. "Obviously, we value Marist's versatility. I think that was on display during camp before he was hurt. So as we move forward, we'll kind of see where he's at."

Cowboys OC Klayton Adams said he wants to do a better job of helping the play-caller (Schottenheimer). How can he? “Number-one, I want to recommend stuff that works … When you’re struggling, you’re searching hard for answers and I think it’s easy to overthink things. I want to give very clear, defined solutions. ‘This is why we’re doing this, this is why it’s going to work. The players like it and they believe it, too.’”

Cowboys DC Christian Parker was asked about this play today: "It was an empty check. [Malachi Lawrence] is playing the quarter flat, but he's playing the flat, and if you have the flat, you have the wheel. So he had the short route that was at four yards, quarterback scrambles and I think turns up the field, and [Lawrence] is doing his job of kind of carrying the second man through his zone. Sometimes those things will happen. You certainly don't think about the outside linebacker covering 30 yards down, that's not intended for that."
Malachi Lawrence, the *checks notes* slot corner!

Cowboys DC Christian Parker on how first-round pick Caleb Downs can improve in coverage: "I think it's just technique and time on task. The more snaps you get against NFL receivers, the stems, the alignments, the situation and what the formation told you pre-snap, I think all of those things. Do we lose in the first second of the play, do we lose later on at the point of attack, what was the reason for it? I think you look at those as their own individual world in terms of how you correct those and you fix them during the week in practice, watch them on tape and just kind of keep taking those strides. There have been plenty of examples where he's been sticky in the hip pocket, and there's some where we can do a little better from a technique standpoint. And there's just been a handful where it's been a good throw and catch, and you just tip your cap and move on on those."
