Have you heard that capitalism is absolutely smashing poverty? Have you seen this graph? The line goes down impressively. Capitalism is not perfect, but at least things are going in the right direction. Just give it some more time. Right? WRONG.
Of course but people need help and some people have a good chance to recover and some you can never help, but do you think we as a society should just give up and not even try to help? And also the society is *making* these addictions in the first place by its bad conditions.
Wages go to workers and those wages can be more than the profits that go to capitalists but the difference is the workers are spending our lives working -- our bodies, our time, our pain, our work, our opportunity cost -- and the capitalists are doing nothing but getting profits.
Replying to @JohnRad15 @dmawlf
The reality is that the majority of revenue flows to employees rather than to shareholders, though. Average corporate profit margins tend to hang around 10% most of the time.
Yes the labor market is a market and it's entirely rigged by capitalism forcing a constant saturation of the supply side -- the labor sellers -- the working class.
Replying to @JohnRad15
The labor market is another market.
People compete for jobs.
Want higher pay? Learn more job skills.
Yes, employers profit off employee labor. If there was no profit opportunity, there'd have been no job opening.
The unspoken thing is that capitalism removed our right to live on the land of this planet, which is what enables rent-seeking behaviors like yours. You are not producing anything yourself. You are a parasite in the system using other people's labor to live your lavish lifestyle.
APOLOGIES IN ADVANCE TO ANY TENANTS READING THIS, BUT I’M NOT STAYING QUIET.
I’ve housed you for four years at $1,750 a month. You’ve never been late. You’ve never trashed it. You’ve been a solid tenant. Then I sent the renewal: rent’s going up $275.
YES.
You’ve paid me almost $84,000 over four years. That money covered the mortgage (which I’m still on the hook for if anything goes wrong), property taxes that keep rising, insurance premiums that have jumped hard, maintenance and repairs that cost more every year, and all the other costs of keeping the place habitable and legal.
The equity and any portfolio growth come from the capital I put in, the risk I took, and the fact that I own the asset, not from the rent check itself.
You’re the one writing the check every month for the right to live there. At the end of it, you own nothing because you didn’t buy it, finance it, or take on the ownership risks. I did. If the roof fails, the HVAC dies, a pipe bursts, taxes go up again, insurance spikes, or you leave and it sits vacant, that’s on me.
A $275 increase isn’t “because the market lets me.” It’s because the costs of providing the housing have gone up, insurance, taxes, labor, materials, compliance.
Recent data shows typical homeowners paying ~$1,380 a month just in maintenance, taxes, and insurance on top of the mortgage, with insurance up sharply over the last several years.
Apartment owners have been keeping only about 11 cents of every rent dollar after debt service, operations, taxes, and the rest.
Expenses have often risen faster than rents.
Stop treating landlords like a free housing subscription that never has rising costs. The rent pays for the use of the property and the service of ownership. The equity belongs to the person who bought it and bears the risk.
If you want a version where some of the money eventually becomes yours, buy your own home.
Makes death threats by adding to a "helicopter" list but accuses me of "defending criminals" because I say that capitalism is slavery.
Replying to @JohnRad15 @ImMeme0
nah, it's a criminal defending criminals. anarchists are just as stupid as communists.
This capitalism defending POS didn't even know what happened to Guatemala in 1954. I love catching them in their total ignorance.
Replying to @JohnRad15 @dmawlf
and meanwhile Guatemala is 137th out of 193 on the human development index.
doesn't sound like your "democratic socialist" wet dream worked too well for them eh, comrade?
Capitalism concentrates the abundance created by the working people for the capiotalists and leaves the working people poor.
Replying to @shaunmmaguire
If they only had a modicum of intelligence they would see the only path to abundance is through capitalism which in turn creates the only theoretical framework where socialism works…infinite supply for handouts
Capitalism makes a specific mode of property called "private property" which is a silly name because regular property was private before it, but this new term meant *unlimited* land ownership with no respect to a commons or the needs of others to also have land.
Replying to @JohnRad15 @BadAtMathBull
Your quotes make a strong case — for widespread property. The peasant with a cow and a few acres was free because he had something of his own. And enclosure was Parliament redistributing land. So is the problem capitalism, or the state handing land to the well-connected?
Ha! I love winning by showing the ignorance of the other person.
Did you think 1952 was the end of the story? Do you know what happened in 1954 without Googling?
Replying to @JohnRad15 @MagnusERE
Huh, so right about when wealth per capita fell off this cliff? Interesting fact to use if you’re trying to support your idea as a solution.
Free Fergie Chambers and god damn the evil US empire.
🚨 “Chambers’s legal team discovered that [Fergie’s] phone was no longer in the custody of the national court in Madrid and had been turned over to the FBI…”
Where is the law? Apparently, no where to be found in this case of political persecution.
theguardian.com/us-news/2026…
Fergie Chambers is a great guy and doing good things, and he should be free. Something about your tone tells me you don't like him and you're on the side of Zionists and capitalists so everything you say should be read as opposite of truth.
Free Fergie Chambers!!!!!
80-something days in prison now. Free him, Spain!
Solidarity is not a crime, it's an obligation. It's a duty. Fergie Chambers is in prison in Spain facing US extradition and persecution for rising to the duty of solidarity. No the extradition of Fergie Chambers. #freefergie #freefergiechambers
Nope, it's just plain wrong and it's a ploy to ascribe bad motivation to people who critique capitalism. Capitalism is slavery and wishing to escape it is not "envy" but the very noble human desire for freedom. It sickens me every time someone acribes "envy" to anti-capitalists.
Anyone feel like telling JimBob the capitalism defender my answer, since he replied and then blocked me? My answer is:
Been working 37 years but I know you have no actual arguments because capitalism is class slavery and is indefensible using rational arguments.
The minimum wage discourse is something else. Conservatives will really say things like, “Learn economics. Capitalism requires a massive supply of desperate, exploited workers drowning in poverty to keep commodity prices low for the wealthy, and that’s a good thing.”
John Rad retweeted
dude, the fact of being alive as a human allows people to do things and to strive and to trade and to produce products of value and such things, and capitalism removes this for most people and keeps us trapped in wage work to survive for most of our lives generally

Normal person: *observes unnecessary suffering in the world*, perhaps we should improve society somewhat
Capitalist propagandists: Nuh uh! You pea-brained leftists. These are the thoughts of your superiors that you are simply repeating. The unnecessary suffering of billions is the best we can do. *brings out charts showing why the poors should die*
People created the technology and built the infrastructure. Capitalism caused a tiny few to be obscenely rich. It caused the working people to never be able to rest of have fulfilling lives with meaning. It's class slavery to the wage.
Replying to @JohnRad15
Capitalism created the technology and built the infrastructure. Capitalism created the middle class and continues to expand it. It made servants into entrepreneurs. It is the single greatest pathway to prosperity ever
