The @metpoliceuk have been community noted and its glorious 🤣🤣 They even turned off comments so people couldn't call out their b.s HUGE community note W
Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has responded to the unacceptable online abuse directed at a Met officer who received an award at yesterday's annual Police Federation Conference. PC Fiona Shaik Umar was recognised for the outstanding contribution she has made for women in policing.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The vast majority of criticism was not because she is Muslim, but because she was not following very basic gun safety rules. Her finger was on the trigger and she pointed the barrel of the gun at a fellow officer. gunsafetyrules.nra.org hunter-ed.com/muzzleloader/s… x.com/BasilTheGreat/… x.com/WilkieisBack66… x.com/LozzaFox/statu…

Jordan Belfort finally explained what “Sell me this pen” really tests, and most salespeople fail it in 1 sentence. The moment they hear the line, they start pitching. The pen is great, it writes upside down, it’s the best value for the money. To Belfort, that’s the clearest sign someone doesn’t understand selling. The right answer doesn’t mention the pen at all, at least not at first. A fan in the audience asks Belfort to sell the pen. He jokes that no one has ever asked him that before, then explains what the test is really for: before you pitch anything, you ask questions. How long have you been in the market for a pen? What have you used before? Is it for business or personal? How much do you usually spend? Pitching without asking, Belfort says, tells the buyer you don’t give a shit about them. You’re just ramming the product down their throat. The questions also tell Belfort who to walk away from. If someone says they’re not looking for a pen, he says “Great, have a nice day” and moves on. To him, the biggest rookie mistake is trying to sell to everybody. Only then does Belfort pitch: “Based on what you said to me, this pen is perfect. Let me tell you why.” And the pen, he says, is just a stand-in for any product. Rookies sell the pen. Pros sell what you just told them. Be honest: would you have pitched the pen, or asked the first question?

New Line paid Peter Jackson more than a quarter of a billion dollars for The Lord of the Rings. In 2005, he sued the studio anyway. In 1998, Miramax dropped the project after deciding it could only afford one film. Jackson had four weeks to find a studio that would write Harvey Weinstein a $20 million check. By his account, almost everyone in Hollywood passed. There was one condition. On top of flat fees, Jackson's deal gave him a share of the films' income and bonuses tied to the box office. In the clip below, Jackson recalls New Line boss Bob Shaye watching his 36-minute pitch reel in complete silence. Then Shaye said: "I don't get it. Why would you be wanting to do two Lord of the Rings films? It's three books, isn't it? Shouldn't it be three films?" The trilogy took nearly $3 billion at the box office and won 17 Oscars. In the same 2002 interview, Jackson said of New Line: "I have no complaints." He also mentioned that he had just finished a DVD version of the first film, 30 minutes longer. Three years later, Jackson sued. According to his lawsuit, New Line hadn't properly calculated his share of The Fellowship of the Ring's profits, including DVD money. The suit also said the studio gave its own affiliates favorable licensing deals on the film. Jackson said he wanted an audit, not a fixed sum. In January 2007, Shaye answered: "He got a quarter of a billion dollars paid to him so far. I don't want to work with that guy anymore." He added: "He will never make any movie with New Line Cinema again while I'm still working for the company." New Line started looking for another director for The Hobbit. Jackson wrote that the studio had given him "a courtesy call." Later that year, New Line's big bet, The Golden Compass, opened weak with $25 million. The studio needed a hit. At Cannes, Shaye approached Jackson's agent: "Let's talk about something productive and creative." In December 2007 they settled, without disclosing the terms. Jackson and his wife, Fran Walsh, became executive producers of The Hobbit. "Both of us didn't get exactly what we felt we should," said New Line co-chief Michael Lynne. Two months later, in February 2008, Time Warner restructured New Line, and Shaye and Lynne were out. Jackson ended up directing all three Hobbit films himself. So was New Line underpaying Jackson, or was a quarter of a billion dollars just not enough for him?

It's not the city, it's the people who live in it.
It is a rare miracle in human history that Tokyo, a massive metropolis with a population of 30 million, is clean and safe throughout, with virtually no slums or dangerous districts.

Lady with red hair accuses Wes Streeting of scare-mongering and pushing people to panic buy at shops As Wes Streeting outlines the need to stockpile three days of food, water, energy My view: Wes Streeting’s record as health secretary was a disaster. He promised to fix a broken NHS, but when he left office, millions were still waiting for treatment and the service had missed important targets for A&E, cancer care and ambulance response. One target improved, but that doesn’t make the wider record a success. - That record is fair game for criticism. But advising people to keep a few essentials at home is practical common sense, not a reason to panic. The guidance is for a three-day supply in case services are disrupted: food, water, essential medicines, a torch, a radio and a way to charge a phone. Nobody is being told to clear the shelves or build a bunker. Buy what you need gradually, follow the advice calmly, and leave supplies available for everyone else. In our age of uncertainty being a little prepared isn't such a bad idea.

Stella Creasy is not just thick but proud of being thick.
Claire Fox well and truly put Stella Creasy in her place during a fiery clash on Politics Live. Stella was doing the usual thing of virtue-signalling and accusing others of dog-whistling simply for suggesting the riots in France might have something to do with immigration and a lack of integration. Not the whole story, but a real part of it. Claire gave her both barrels. Stella claimed: “You are denigrating a community like mine where we have a diverse community.” Claire pointed out that she has actually read a wide range of French media to understand what is happening. Stella was citing Le Monde. Claire noted that is the equivalent of a British commentator citing only the Guardian. There is a serious conversation to be had about what is happening in France, Claire said. Young people there appear not to care about the country. They happily smash it up and destroy historic buildings. It is not only about immigration, she made clear, but to claim there is no element of this connected to immigration and the lack of integration of young immigrants is simply missing the point. If we are going to have a frank and open discussion, she argued, you must at least acknowledge that it is complicated and that there is a massive argument underway among people on many sides. Claire then told Stella she clearly had no real grasp of the debate because she had only read Le Monde rather than a broad range of French commentators on the left and the right. Stella claimed she had. Claire replied that in that case she would know that many French voices have said the lack of integration of many migrant communities has contributed to this. Stella just sat there smug, sniping dismissively. Claire finished by saying that the idea you cannot understand there are tensions in this country around the lack of integration in some migrant communities would be a serious mistake. Well said, @Fox_Claire. This is the reality. Politicians like Stella who stick their heads in the sand and attack anyone who raises these very real problems do tremendous harm. What is happening in France could happen here. The problem is growing in this country, not getting better. These conversations need to happen.

Very good point, @bbc. You wonder why no one has any faith in you. PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. It's a programming language used to build websites, etc. A bit like a car correspondent, not knowing what wheels are and what they're used for. @joetidy
How do you end up getting a job as the BBC’s cyber correspondent without having heard of PHP?
