October is National Principals Month, and we’re excited to highlight some of the leaders making a difference across Team BCPS! Meet Heather Denmyer, principal at Seventh District Elementary School.

BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE A TEACHER… SPEND A DAY IN THEIR CLASSROOM.
See the child who hasn’t eaten.
The child who barely slept.
The child carrying anxiety, anger, grief, trauma, or problems at home they don’t have words for yet.
See the teacher trying to reach all of them, while teaching everyone else, answering emails, managing behaviors, completing paperwork, and buying supplies with their own money.
Then watch some of those educators leave school exhausted and go to a second job just to make ends meet.
And tomorrow? They come back. They show up for our kids again.
If we want better schools, we have to stop expecting educators to fix everything by themselves.
-Volunteer.
-Speak up.
-Support fair pay.
-Attend school board meetings.
-Advocate for more counselors, social workers, psychologists, paraprofessionals, and mental health resources.
-Ask teachers what they actually need—and listen.
Less blame. More support.
Less criticizing from the sidelines. More of us stepping onto the field.
They keep showing up for our kids. It’s time we showed up for them.
If you know an educator who keeps showing up, share this for them.
Let’s go!!
Still No. 2 in the nation heading into conference play this week‼️

Had a great visit with Dr. Heiser, Dr. Bennett-Pryor and Dr. Jones. Proud to have them visit The Cake, observe instruction and learn about our student’s strengths. Come back anytime!
Ms. Geisler’s fourth graders enjoyed a lunchtime picnic after earning four Jaguar Spots for excellent cafeteria behavior this past week.

🕊️ Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families forever changed, and the courage shown in the face of tragedy.
“We are more alike, my friends, than we are unalike.” — Dr. Maya Angelou
May we honor them through remembrance and humanity.

If you were young in 2001, or weren’t even born yet, it can be hard to imagine what 9/11 felt like. The shock of that beautiful, cloudless morning. The heartbreak of the families whose loved ones were taken with such swiftness and cruelty. The realization that the forces of malevolence and violence were closer, and the future less certain, than we knew.
But in the days that followed, we felt something else, too. Pride in the rescue workers who had rushed to the scene, and the passengers who had stormed the cockpit. Admiration for the men and women who left behind lives of comfort to serve their country. A deep resolve that nothing would break the will of a truly United States of America.
Today Michelle and I are remembering those we lost that day, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the wars that followed. We pray for their families. And we hope Americans everywhere remember the true lesson of 9/11: that we can survive even our darkest days as long as we move forward as one nation and one people.

None of us who lived through 9/11 will ever forget the lives lost or the countless stories of heroism from the day. But a third of today's Americans are too young to have any memory of it.
For them, the @Sept11Memorial is making a new digital learning experience available starting tomorrow.
A free 35-minute film will feature the personal stories of survivors, family members, and first responders. Viewing guides and pre-program activities will be available for grades 3 through 12.
We said we'd never forget—and part of that charge is making sure the next generation also remembers.Find the offerings at 911memorial.org/DLE.
Second graders in Ms. El-Fayoumy’s class connected their Clark the Shark story to their Zones of Regulation knowledge. What a great way to connect ELA and SEL!
Back at it at The Cake. So great to see our students and families today. And…96% attendance rate too.
