Rest. People who have fed from the teat of state cannot tell those scratching a living and dreaming of actually making the most of this one life they've got how to speak on how Nigeria has treated them. The indignity is you trying to police that expression. Get out.
The trend of some Nigerians de-marketing their country and mocking their passports is the ultimate form of self-hatred and indignity. If you dislike the Nigerian government and politicians, at least try to distinguish them from Nigeria itself – the only home you have regardless of your feelings. No matter where you go, you’ll always be an immigrant at best.
They think premium is what they say and not what they do. The entire process will be sub par/stressful/mid but the end product and compliments are meant to make up for it.

“In late spring 2020, a source I knew to be reliable called me with a story,” writes Matthew Cole. “The Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner’s phone and monitored him as he accessed a Dubai-based bank account. What was odd, the source said, was that the money in the account—hundreds of millions of dollars—had come from a bank in Azerbaijan. Most importantly, Kushner appeared to have transferred significant amounts of money from the Dubai account to other individuals, including a warlord, a mercenary and a one-time hit man. The story sounded preposterous, I told my source. And yet.
Six months later, I found myself speaking with someone else about the UAE government and their use of mercenaries in conflicts around the Middle East and Africa when I asked, on a whim, whether they knew anything about Kushner and bank transfers from a UAE account. My acquaintance grew quiet. Then they replied, ‘Yes.’” Kushner’s lawyer denied the bank account existed.

It is from the mundane ordinary things that you get to properly understand Nigeria. Drilling a deep water well costs at least $100m but here is the regulator inviting licence winners to come for a 2 day “training”. Who has $100m to spend (with no guarantee of success) and needs “training” on what to do next?
From this we can infer the kind of people who have been awarded the licences…
So you bidded for an oil block, you won, you’ve paid the signature bonus and have been awarded a lease. So what’s the next step?
In the past, many companies were unable to develop their blocks because they lacked the commercial or technical capability.
The consequence of this was that these assets sat idle, depriving the Nigerian people of jobs and the government of revenue.
To change this trend, the NUPRC is for the next two days holding an onboarding programme for the latest awardees of the Petroleum Prospecting Licence (PPL).
Subject matter experts with decades of experience drawn from various departments in the NUPRC as well as external facilitators will provide new licensees with the knowledge that will take them from exploration to first oil.
The entire 2-day event will be streamed live on our social media pages. Follow the NUPRC on X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram to be part of it.

20.10.2020. Six years ago today. So much buried trauma in this country, so much unresolved grief, individual, collective. Image as memorial. Rest in peace to the unacknowledged dead.

Wardah Abbas' story, 'How Nigerian Universities Became Centres of Islamic Radicalism' details her experience at the University of Ilorin and accounts from other campuses addressing how religious radicalisation took hold in university spaces, how student groups became means for ideological control, and how institutional silence allowed it to persist.
