We’re close to a trillion tokens a month, almost doubling every month, and we’re only constrained by the supply of GPUs. The more GPUs we can throw at it, the more money we make.

You don’t need hyperscalers to run frontier inference. You can run it in commercial facilities, in offices, in homes. In my home I actually have a server rack running my local AI.

@gregosuri has been highlighting the energy bottleneck in AI infrastructure. Now we're seeing it play out in real time
AWS has GPUs waiting for power, while NVIDIA is pushing modular AI factories to accelerate deployment
Distributed compute and modular data centres deserve serious attention
@akashnet is ready to help bring distributed GPU capacity online
NVIDIA's new DSX POD initiative aims to deploy AI factories in as little as 14 days at prepared sites, compared with six months for conventional deployments.
The next big focus for infrastructure providers is getting compute online faster, putting idle GPUs to work, making money from existing hardware, and making AI compute more accessible and affordable
I've been sounding the horn about rising energy costs impacting hyperscalers for over four years and now AWS cannot deploy more compute due to lack of energy.
Distributed modular datacenters are the future and Akash is ready.

🚨AKASH CORE TEAM PROPOSES MOVE TO SOLANA!
Akash’s core team wants to leave its sovereign Cosmos chain and rebuild the decentralized compute marketplace as native programs on Solana.
They say Solana is where DePIN already thrives, network fees would drop to ~0.075 $SOL a day, and it has the users and liquidity.
Prop 346 is live for the community to decide. $AKT would migrate 1:1 to SPL.

@akashnet moving to Solana is the obvious call.
The marketplace doesn’t need its own chain. No custom block processing, no special consensus — just orders, bids and leases that work anywhere.
So Akash was paying to run a chain it wasn’t really using, while DePIN, liquidity and users were all on @solana. Fees there round to zero, which matters for a marketplace built on constant bids.
Prop 346 is the first step.

Everyone will read this as a UX update. Look at the fifth card.
GPU deployments that got no bid at all: 36.2% → 23.9%.
A third of people asking for a GPU used to walk away with nothing. Now it’s under a quarter. That’s not polish — that’s the difference between “I tried Akash once” and “I use Akash.”
Signups up 49%, people deploying up 46%, fulfillment up to 54.7%, and fewer people quitting in the first ten minutes.
Fix the thing that made people leave and growth takes care of itself.

New @defidecodedpod is out!
I sit down with @gregosuri of @akashnet to discuss why decentralized compute networks could power the next wave of AI.
Infrastructure bottlenecks, data centre backlash, and power shortages means we must tap into GPU capacity wherever it exists—even in our own homes.
Always a blast chatting with Greg.
Check it out!

Receipts from November 2024.
@gregosuri said hyperscalers would end up with GPUs they couldn’t power. Business Insider just reported Amazon has warehouses of them — sites with room for more racks but not enough power to turn them on, and no clear forecasted path to installing them.
He also said in Feb 2025 that everyone would be talking about the energy crisis in two years.
Somewhere right now there’s a startup that can’t get an H100, and a warehouse full of them that nobody can plug in.
That’s not a shortage. That’s an allocation failure — and it’s the exact problem @akashnet was built for. An open marketplace where any provider with powered, idle capacity can list it, and anyone who needs compute can rent it. No queue, no allocation meeting, no waiting on a substation.
