You knew him as Scotty. But 22 years before Star Trek, James Doohan was fighting his way onto Juno Beach on D-Day. And before the war was over, he'd survive being shot six times. On June 6, 1944, Doohan was a lieutenant in the Canadian Army when he landed with Canadian forces at Juno Beach during the Allied invasion of Normandy. He made it through the landing. But later that night, while returning to his command post, Doohan was caught in friendly fire. Six bullets hit him. Four struck his leg. One hit his right middle finger so badly that it eventually had to be amputated. The sixth hit him in the chest. That one might have killed him—except it struck a silver cigarette case his brother had given him, stopping the bullet before it could do far worse. Doohan survived, although the missing finger remained with him for the rest of his life. Years later, when he became Montgomery “Scotty” Scott on Star Trek, the injury was generally kept out of view. Millions of viewers would come to know him as Scotty, the engineer who helped keep the USS Enterprise flying—and whose name would forever be linked to the words “Beam me up.” But long before Scotty was beaming anyone to safety, James Doohan had already survived something extraordinary here on Earth. Most never knew how much James Doohan had survived before Scotty ever reached space. 🖖

Former MI6 Chief Scarlett: Putin came to power almost from nowhere in 1999. At first, he tried to build ties with the US, NATO and the West. His demand was clear: Russia had to be treated as America’s equal. The question is whether the West understood how deep that need was. 1/

China and India are helping Putin evade sanctions, according to Zelenskyy. The filthy governments of India and China are directly complicit in the genocide in Ukraine.
