The last day before the election, so for anyone still after some more candidate info, here's a podcast that I did with @fionapotigny @bailiwickxpress where we had 2 minutes to talk about "why vote for us" and then answer some quick fire questions.

I have asked the JEA to publish the names of all the candidates who identified on their nomination form that they were "involved" with a political movement. I have been told this cannot be done because candidates have to give their consent & at least some of them are refusing to do so.
It seems to me farcical that the identity of who ticked the "movement" box on their nomination form is a state secret. The public have a right to know. jonathanrenouf.je/2026/05/28…
This is the 3rd day in a row that has smashed the May temp record. It also breaks the record for the hottest JUNE day ever (33.4) which itself was only set last year. Before this year, the May temp record was 28.9. The May record has jumped 5 deg in a year. Utterly unprecedented.
Something a bit different... I've been looking into the pioneering photographer Thomas Sutton, who was based for a time at St Brelade's Bay. One of his images is labelled Friquet (Fiquet), but it is hard to work out where it was taken. So this afternoon I went in search...
The opportunity to build a strong community hub at Les Creux is something I have championed over the last couple of years. With a preferred bidder now in place for the Bowls club building, here are some thoughts on my vision for the future.
This video introduces the "island wide" part of my manifesto jonathanrenouf.je/manifesto-… building on the idea of Jersey as a "safe harbour" in times of uncertainty. But it has to be a safe harbour that works for everyone, where everyone has the chance to flourish.
Earlier this week I launched my campaign to be re-elected as an independent Deputy of St Brelade, so here is a video that introduces the St Brelade part of my manifesto. The details can be found here. jonathanrenouf.je/st-brelade…
I'm very pleased to be introducing the screening of this film on Tues, and chairing a Q&A/discussion afterwards. Although the film comes out of a UK initiative, the environmental agenda it presents is highly relevant to Jersey. All islanders are welcome...
A small announcement: I am going to stand for re-election as a Deputy of St Brelade in the June 7th election. I’ll be saying a lot more about my ideas and plans for a 2nd term once nominations close. For now, I’ll just say that my priorities if elected will include:
- Improving the public realm & community facilities in St Brelade
- Investing in the island’s future
- Tackling the cost of living
- Protecting and enhancing our environment
- Supporting stability in government finances
- Promoting sustainable economic growth

How Jersey's high value residency scheme has accelerated over the last 15 years. The column for the 2020's is extrapolated based on figs so far. In theory, the same (or more restrictive) policy has been in place throughout. This is why we need limits we stick to.
The below appeared recently on FB, directed at me. Many public figs have received far worse, but wishing someone dead is unpleasant. It’s worth remembering that however much we disagree, most of us do what we do because we believe it to be in the best interests of the island.
I've lodged a Proposition in the States to cap the number of "high value" resident - or 2(1)(e) - approvals at 15 a year. In theory, this is the gov's own target, but last year they gave 37 approvals. I'm not against the scheme, but there do need to be limits.
I need to apologise. I have just had confirmation from the gov that those who move off the 2 (1) (e) scheme to become "entitled" do NOT retain their tax benefits. I was basing this on Para 125 of this doc. gov.je/SiteCollectionDocumen… Officers concede the wording might lead to a wrong conclusion.
It was unintentionally amusing to see ministers trying to argue - after days of defending the indefensible - that their belated decision to give JET what they’d asked for many months ago was some kind of success. Like planting a bomb & trying to get credit for defusing it.
I asked the Min for Inf about Les Creux in the Assembly yesterday. It was good that the minister finally confirmed the JCLT as the “lead party”, but the delays have been unconscionable. The building has been empty for 2 years. I hope all parties move fast from now on.
petitions.gov.je/petitions/2… The number of signatures on this petition is climbing by the hour. It is a recognition that JET have huge expertise, they’re a well run organisation delivering an excellent service. Why would gov not want to build on that? A climbdown is surely coming…
CM @lyndonfarnham in today's JEP: "we needed to... rein in spending. The previous govt didn't do that: we have". Fact check: "Compared to the previous budget, Budget 2026 increases day-to-day spending by £207 million... In 2026 alone, departments receive an extra £53 million for growth allocations (real increases in departmental budgets to fund additional policies)" (Source: FPP report 2025)
