When Goku is in control of his emotions he is not thinking about the global situation he is only thinking about the fight because that’s what makes him a good martial artist. The fact you think the literal Author doesn’t know his own character is Ego on your part, There is just nuance to Goku. Goku got scared against Raditz, But Excited against Vegeta BECAUSE of his Saiyan blood being activated by being relatively even with Vegeta with Raditz it was Life or Death. How Goku behaves is completely situational and any time everyone’s safety is on the line he will do whatever to fix it but that’s not his goal or the reason he wants to fight, He is a pure hearted martial artist who is forced to protect himself and others in life or death situations not a Righteous Hero of justice who actively looks to save people.. this is so unbelievably easy to understand and should be common knowledge at this point.

So what that still means Goku's supposed purity brock.
And while its the only time its highlighted like this so is it obviously not the only time Goku fought for other reasons than enjoying fighting strong opponents
Toriyama's statement is just an ideal he didn't actually write

Today in the Nearly Complete Works of Toriyama: his poster illustration of the Monkey King for Stephen Chow's film Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons. Chow is a big DB fan, so Toriyama drew this for the film's Japanese premier in November 2014. dragonball.news/news/2018053…
If I had a dollar for every time someone called me a Larper on here and then immediately said something incorrect I would eventually be very very rich.

Gohan changed his mind and killed him once and for all. He continued to seek justice, naturally, for Cell's sins.
The joke about Vegeta's declaration to kill was that he did it out of pride and malice. Here there's no malice, just one +
This fandom really needs to learn the difference between Avenge and Revenge and how important that is narratively to keeping Goku’s heart free of selfish/evil/malicious thoughts. That’s literally why Goku is pure of Heart because he only kills for others and never for himself and never taints his intentions as a Martial Artist.

Yes he DOES kill for self gratification. He wants to avenge his friends, killing Tambourine and Piccolo makes him feel better, makes him feel like justice was served for Krillin and Roshi. He is literally HUNTING Tambourine to kill him what are we talking about lmao
xitter.cf/svarog_draws/status/21… This is not an example of Goku Killing for self gratification it’s the opposite.

If you genuinely believe that Goku took no self gratification in killing King Piccolo Idk what to tell you lmao
That’s hilarious given that Toriyama gave the EXACT SAME CRITICISM I gave. Vegeta’s speech is LITERALLY in reference to his criticism, Toriyama wanted to portray that no one was as pure as Goku BECAUSE he never killed for self gratification like Vegeta and the Anime did a bad Job portraying that because they made it seem like he killed based on his own personal sense of Justice rather than instead of being forced as a martial artist.

Ironic you telling me I don't understand Goku when your entire understanding of Dragon Ball is based on bullshit headcanon that Toriyama would laugh at himself.
All Vegeta’s speech is saying is that he kills for self gratification and Goku doesn’t in the correct translation he says “You never obsessed with killing your opponents” and in literally all 3 of the images you posted they are literal examples of this. Goku went through an entire test that narratively revealed his intentions were pure in the King Piccolo arc because he was willing to die of poison to protect his friends which is there narratively to show he wasn’t doing it for self gratification, Goku called Frieza a fool because he gave him a chance to go away and train and come back and he squandered it which forced Goku to kill him he didn’t want to until he realized he had no choice and the third example is the MOST egregious because it’s literally in reference to Namek when Goku resisted killing Frieza for selfish reasons, Gohan falls victim to that and Goku is trying to get him to Kill him without malicious intent like he did on Namek. Literally all of this feeds into Vegeta’s speech it doesn’t contradict it.
Stop Lying Vegeta.
This is exactly what I was complaining about when it came to Goku’s characterization in the Buu Saga in the Anime. Goku should be able to keep his Cool even in Ssj2 at this point. It’s ok for him to be upset but I didn’t like how they portrayed it, it contradicted that control. I am really glad Super went in this direction.
Dragon Ball is named after Enter the Dragon which Features Bruce Lee teaching his student the principles of Ki and Ultra Instinct in the first Scene of the Film. It was always meant to be.

So I just want to take a second to point out how unbelievably reactionary Dragon Ball Fans are on the internet. Nearly every single example below were convinced by a bigger account I was making an argument I wasn’t and as a result those accounts started a chain reaction of hatred towards me after reframing my message on purpose. NOT ONCE did I imply that the 2 images from my post are the exact same situation just that Goku is expressing better control over his emotions and that I wanted to see that in the Buu Saga. I literally verbatim said that I didn't mind goku getting mad I just didn't like that they made him seem malicious. It’s my opinion and it’s valid, NOT A SINGLE ONE of these people even read what I actually said, just reacted emotionally to a narrative that they didn’t even use critical thinking to examine. The Funniest part are the people that block me JUST to talk trash. This is why when people tell me that they can’t stand DB Twitter I totally get it because this is a constant and it’s ridiculous.
