Announcing our newest @a16zBioHealth fund: $700M to back the best founders working to make better medicines and to make the practice of medicine better.
To cure disease, to care for our sick, to fix what’s broken is deeply ingrained; it is medicine’s highest aim.
“At @a16z, we believe that the best thing that a society can do for a person is to give them a chance. Give them a shot at a great life…” - @bhorowitz

At Andreessen Horowitz, we just raised over $15B.
With these new funds including American Dynamism ($1.176B), Apps ($1.7B), Bio + Health ($700M), Infrastructure ($1.7B), Growth ($6.75B), and other venture strategies ($3B), we raised over 18% of all venture capital dollars allocated in the United States in 2025.
Why did we raise the money and how do we plan to invest it?

Four years ago to the day, we started Orchestra Bio to help biotech and pharma teams advance their drug development programs. AI has now reached an inflection point where people and agents can take this on together. Today, we’re thrilled to share that Orchestra Bio is joining OpenAI to continue our mission at an even greater scale.

Congratulations to @a16z portfolio company @OrchestraBio, @ashokaraj_ + team on joining forces with @OpenAI to help biopharma orchestrate (and accelerate!) the complex journey from scientific discovery to novel medicines for patients!
Doctors, both human and AI, help guide our care.
But once you know what you need, what do you buy? Where do you buy it? How much are you going to pay?
Healthcare needs a store.
@a16z is thrilled to lead @GeneralMedicine’s $120m series B @tjparker @elliotcohen @ashwinkmurali
General Medicine has raised a $120M Series B led by @a16z. We're using it to build the healthcare store.
The only way healthcare will work is to make the customer the most powerful participant in the system. And the only way to do that is to let them shop.
Here’s why healthcare needs a store, and what we had to build to make it possible:
“What can I do for you today?”
Why we invested in @GeneralMedicine:

First patient dosed in @OctantBio’s clinical trial for retinitis pigmentosa, a rare genetic eye disease with no approved treatments. An exciting milestone for Frontier Drugs!
First RP patient dosed in our Phase 1B/2 w/ OCT-980 Rho corrector for retinitis pigmentosa. Really thankful to the clinicians, staff, CRO partners & Octonauts for helping get this drug to patients w/ no other approved treatments. Exciting times! octant.bio/news/octant-annou…
MIT's motto is mens et manus: mind and hand
@srikosuri used to read it as "think, then do"
Now he reads it in reverse: "the hand teaches the mind”
Which is why @OctantBio is building Octomind, an agentic AI drug hunter, to speed up the do → discover → decide loop
🐙🧠
Biopharma is rapidly embracing AI-native drug discovery, which is opening up some interesting new avenues for collaboration.
We @a16z are co-hosting an #SFTechWeek breakfast with @EliLillyandCo to dig into what this looks like in practice.
We’ll hear from leaders at Lilly TuneLab, @insitro, @BigHatBio, Flex Therapeutics, and a16z about how federated learning, biology foundation models, generative design, and closed-loop experimentation can help our industry make better predictions and accelerate drug discovery.
Come hang out with us! @Techweek_ @VanessaBraunst

This is an incredible resource for anyone who has been impacted by cancer and is trying to navigate scary and uncertain new terrain. Thank you @judegomila
I've attempted to map everything in oncology in a public website and open source repo for all.
The site is trying to get all cancers, products, technologies, bottlenecks, people, startup opportunities with 1000+ ideas for upgrading the field.
If you have a loved one with cancer and you are technical or can engineer, go take a look, file improvement requests or bugs or help with the open repo and make this the best open and free info resource for individuals, researchers and educational use.
This should save people time, aid AI oncology projects and generate positive action. If you are not technical just complain in this thread about broken or annoying or things you want and I'll fix them live.
Some of the interesting pages:
Treatments: onco.cc/drugs
A gallery of the molecules being used onco.cc/molecules/
And targets: onco.cc/targets/
The technologies in oncology: onco.cc/technologies/
1100 ideas for helping oncology: onco.cc/ideas/

The startups: onco.cc/startups/
Heros and heroines : onco.cc/heroes/
Key medical people: onco.cc/people/
Here is the project roadmap: onco.cc/roadmap/
Models and data sets: onco.cc/models/
There are other views as well, take a browse.
Try making a PR if you have an upgrade to this on the repo here: github.com/judegomila/OnCo
If you are biologically/medically minded and something is wrong, file a bug as well or say on the thread and we will get it fixed live.
If this is a useful project star the repo and help get it calibrated.
I've tried to add some other languages but I cannot speak them so tell me if that doesnt work well.
I believe we will crack oncology and having total information dominance is key to the problem.
Let the feedback flow!
Trikafta @VertexPharma for cystic fibrosis. Rasonque @RevMedicines for pancreatic cancer.
"Undruggable" breakthroughs often come from inventing new ways to make molecules, not new biology.
@srikosuri on @OctantBio approach to building “frontier drugs” no one knows how to make:
Boltz Bio’s goal is to put frontier AI in the hands of every scientist working to understand and design the molecules that shape our world.
Expanding beyond pharma, @boltz_bio partners with @dsmfirmenich to use these tools to create new flavors and fragrances.
Excited to announce our partnership with @dsmfirmenich to bring @boltz_bio's latest AI models to the discovery and design of new scent and flavor molecules! 🧪
Moderna can now turn around individualized mRNA treatments in only 42 days. A miracle of modern medicine.
Last month Moderna reported the first individualized cancer vaccine to pass a Phase 3.
Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel and a16z's Jorge Conde on what that actually means:
The treatment works by sequencing a patient’s tumor and healthy cells, identifying the mutations relevant to their cancer, and encoding up to 34 of them into an mRNA specific to the individual. Rather than simply unleashing the immune system, the goal is to teach it what to recognize and attack.
In this conversation, they unpack the engineering challenge of manufacturing a different medicine for every patient, how Moderna has brought the process down to roughly 42 days from biopsy to treatment, and what it would take to manufacture personalized medicines at scale.
