Thanks to our Faculty Director, @TadashiFukami & the guidance and partnership with @MuwekmaTribe. There is an Indigenous awakening happening at @Stanford / @stanfordjrbp. See note and video in the post below from @MuwekmaTribe:
Our Tribe just received profoundly exciting news from Dr. Tadashi Fukami, who manages 'Ootchamin 'Ooyakma, also known as the Jasper Ridge Nature Preserve on the campus of Stanford University. Following a sacred fire tradition that the Tribe conducted at the site, biologists are now witnessing the return of a rare native plant that is endogenous only to the Bay Area. photos.app.goo.gl/BhFdUjZL8J
"I think this plant can be viewed as a symbol of 'Indigenous awakening,' showing what is to come with the Muwekma," Dr. Fukami writes. jrbp.stanford.edu/news/inten
What a deep, beautiful, and glorious sign of things to come!! Thank you so much to Dr. Fukami for all of the extraordinary work that you're doing. The posture of true collaboration, friendship, and partnership that you have with our People is deeply appreciated. As Dr. Fukami has said many times, we all benefit from indigenous knowledge -- and everyone should respect these traditions, which evolved from indigenous science. fb.watch/u_fKDSfIJa/ #TrailofTruth #justiceformuwekma

Our network of wireless digital camera traps provide unprecedented & detailed information, e.g. abundance & behavior of wildlife and the nature of corridors linking JRBP to other areas. With new and future stewardship work at JRBP, this technology is key to our research needs!
Camera trap photo yesterday of mountain lion at Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve ('Ootchamin 'Ooyakma) (@stanfordjrbp) of @Stanford. We get these images all the time at 'Ootchamin 'Ooyakma, but this one is unusual in that it's in broad daylight. Photo: Trevor Hebert (@JRWildlife)

From @Stanford Report: Summer interns help unlock the secrets of Jasper Ridge’s birds. Little is understood about the migration of Swainson’s thrushes, but a new bird-banding and monitoring program at could help provide answers. news.stanford.edu/stories/20

Congrats to Marty, Noah, Nick, John and Alex for a great summer at JRBP('O'O)! I want to especially thank my team Trevor, Sheena, Adriana and Steve and docents Jerry and Stu for their help mentoring the students!
Congratulations to our 2024 Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve ('Ootchamin 'Ooyakma) student researchers and stewardship interns! They all worked hard this summer at Jasper Ridge on a variety of research projects ranging from ornithology, entomology, forestry, and wildlife!

Noah and Marty's experience is so exciting! I encourage you to read it and learn about "backpacks for birds!" This is one of the reasons I chose to lead a field station! To continue offering amazing opportunities outdoors just like many professors did for me a loooong time ago!

This is how we all feel here at @stanfordjrbp when we are hosting all of our summer students and interns, including our first SOAR intern! For some, it is the very first time working at a field station and outdoors! I sent this comic to our SOAR network: soarnetwork.org/about
