I warned the Office for Environmental Protection that polluters were paying cash to trash nature and potentially breaching the law. The @OfficeforEP has echoed my concerns that the first scheme under the new Planning Act risks worse outcomes for nature. This must not go ahead.
The Planning Act promised a win-win for nature and housing. But the first scheme under these new rules now risks killing chalk streams and appears to breach the law. The Office for Environmental Protection must step in before a "pay cash to trash" precedent is set.

If the world is getting a little too much may I recommend the inexplicably obsolete word β€˜latibulating’, from the 17th century? To latibulate is to find a cosy corner somewhere and hide in it.

I dug through reports showing a Lancashire factory site’s contamination with the carcinogen PFOA was known for nearly 20 years before anyone was alerted. The town’s residents already have high levels in their blood. My story in @thetimes: thetimes.com/uk/environment/…

Have the people being interviewed been living under a rock? We've said it before and we'll say it again - unless you caught it yourself don't eat fish until stocks recover...
When people see β€˜Responsibly Sourced’ on Scottish salmon packaging, they think of high standards. But when M&S shoppers in Hackney saw the truth behind the label, their reactions said it all. See what the β€˜β€™Responsibly Sourced’’ label actually means πŸ‘‰ bit.ly/4yefweX

I'm sure this is wonderfully good news, but I can't help but think it is ridiculous that such manufactured scarcity of money results in such a charade as 'everyone chipping a bit in' for something that is clearly a public good, is necessary. πŸ™„
Friday morning's actual good news!! πŸ™Œ "Wildlife Trusts hit Β£30m target to buy and rewild huge Northumberland estate. About 25,000 members of public chip in Β£17m towards 3,800-hectare Rothbury estate, described as β€˜once-in-a-generation opportunity’." theguardian.com/environment/…
