BREAKING: Scientists in Japan have found a way to make cancer cells destroy themselves.
They developed a toxin that activates in the presence of carbon monoxide, selectively targeting cancer cells while leaving normal cells unharmed.
This research is still at the lab stage and has not yet been proven effective or safe in humans.

To Ugandan system and website developers, we need to have an honest conversation.
You can spend months building an app or SaaS to solve Uganda’s problems, only to realise that digital illiteracy is still a problem of its own. People may not understand your platform, trust it or even give it attention.
And sometimes, the solutions we build are better suited for markets where people already have the digital habits and purchasing power we assume Ugandans have.
One more thing: you cannot sustainably solve a country's financial problems when you're financially struggling yourself.
Build something that solves your own financial problem first. Get it working, earn from it, learn from the market, then use that experience to tackle bigger problems.
Uganda needs innovative developers, yes. But it also needs developers who understand the market they're building for.
We're not just building software. We're building businesses in a society that is still learning how to use, trust and pay for digital solutions.

Small-scale vendors of Wi-Fi and internet hotspots should not be banned. Instead, UCC could come up with an appropriate licensing framework for them that is not as cumbersome as that of the big players.

Where does the taxes we pay to URA go, we don’t have good roads, teachers on government salaries are under paid, no medicine in hospitals. When they want to fund a government project they just borrow, where does the taxes we pay go?

Sunflower v2 launched yesterday: five open-source models covering 67 African languages, up from the 31 Ugandan languages in our first release. Today we're publishing the numbers and the methods behind it.
Our largest model, Sunflower-Qwen3.8-27B, matches Gemini 3.1 Pro when translating into African languages, and beats it by more than four points on the 31 Ugandan languages specifically.
Our speech recognition model has the lowest average error rate on AfriVox-v2 and SimbaBench, two independent African-language benchmarks. For Luganda, Sunflower's its word error rate is 16%, against 31.5% for the next best system.

Today we released Sunflower v2, a suite of five open-source models for 67 African languages, up from the 31 Ugandan languages in our first release.
What's in the suite:
Translation, speech recognition in 51 languages, text-to-speech in 20, and a model that runs offline on a phone.
Every model, and the datasets behind them, is published on Hugging Face, free to use, adapt and build on.
"Sunflower v2 is a milestone for African languages. It proves that high-precision text and natural conversational voice are achievable right now, and by releasing it as open infrastructure, we're giving our communities the tools to drive innovation and social impact continent-wide."

From 31 Ugandan languages to 67 across the continent, now with speech.
Sunbird AI's first models set out to test if this worked with far less data than English or French. Outperforming ChatGPT & Gemini 2.5 Pro on translation for 24 languages became the foundation for Sunflower v2.
Today we release 5 open-weight models: translation & reasoning, speech recognition, natural speech, and an offline mobile model.
Live session happening today at 3:00 PM EAT.
