I feel like the 1980s loved black people in a way other decades did not. Michael Jackson, Eddie Murphy, Michael Jordan, Prince, Whitney, Janet, Magic, Oprah, LL, and yes, Cosby and OJ, just to name a few. They were LOVED.
We pulling male actors out of the wrong places, namely acting schools and England. Let's go back to the old days when they came from bricklayers, boxers, aikido studios.
I have a natural suspicion of entertainers making documentaries about clear cut crime cases. Whatever the supposed greater thematic goal, the results are always stupid people questioning the guilt of the criminal. Serial, Making a Murderer.
She produced a scam product that endangered lives by producing false blood tests and wasted $10 billion in stock market investment. I thought we were against Wall Street frauding our health care system and preying on people trying to get overpriced medical help.
Elizabeth Holmes’s crimes were egregious. But far fewer women, with or without children, should be incarcerated at all, writes Tyler Cowen. thefp.com/p/tyler-cowen-eliz…
Everyone looking for my You Can See Everything take will need wait for two weeks while I shoot 11 commercials in Bulgaria. Благодаря!
What I'm getting out of the You Can See Everything dialogue (which I haven't seen yet) is billionaires are bad, tech bros are bad, and defrauding the broken healthcare industry is bad, unless you are a female in an existential docustunt. Then it's all a matter of perspective.
After my film Bodied won the People's Choice award at TIFF Midnight Madness, I heard Netflix turned it down because "an Asian female executive" was offended and thought it was racist. Wonder if she made the cut.
Haven't seen the Elizabeth Holmes doc but is the point to obfuscate her guilt? Because I read the very detailed investigative book (Bad Blood - unfortunate title for me) and there's no question she knowingly defrauded. Is it made to confuse morons with sights and sounds?
You know what's eating Netflix's lunch? Tubi. Because they have weird shit. It's the place you can watch low budget sex thrillers shot in Atlanta (my favorite genre). Netflix just puts on a bunch of shit you've already seen. The people demand real cinema.
Film Twitter: THE ONLY WAY TO WATCH IS ON IMAX AND FILM
Also Film Twitter: THEATERS AND FORMAT DON'T MATTER JUST SCRIPTS
Make up your fucking minds.
I think the hard part of Netflix is it's not movies. You cannot shoot the same way you do for movies. You are shooting for a small screen, even if it's a hundred inch TV. It's not a movie theater. It's television. That's not a bad thing, it just requires a different set of compositional tools because you don't have immersion at your fingertips. It actually requires more skill from the filmmaker to encapsulate a cinematic experience in 2 hours on a box you can turn off at any point, that competes against the real world around you. On a certain level, the captured audience of a black box movie theater is easier to bullshit.
I made an AI joke about Dan Lin in my Hollywood Reporter article but it was a joke about AI not about him. He's genuinely a nice guy, very perceptive, one of the smartest guys I've met in Hollywood. He'll bounce back with billion dollar grossing films as he is known to do.
