. @KevinGhateh and I first met just over a year ago. We later found ourselves competing to become interim National Chair of the Young Conservatives. He beat me into second place, which wasn’t quite the start to our friendship I’d planned. But working alongside him as Scottish Chair gave me the chance to get to know him properly. He’s since become a good friend, and someone whose approach to involving and encouraging members I’ve always admired; especially within the devolved nations. One moment that has stayed with me was his invitation to come down from Scotland for an interview with Mike Freer and a discussion with his YCs. I appreciated his interest in bringing people together, hearing different experiences and giving members something worthwhile to take part in. Watching his campaign at this year’s conference, I felt proud of the way he conducted himself and the professionalism he brought to it. I also had the opportunity to meet and listen to the other candidates. This is a personal endorsement, informed by those conversations and my own experience of working with Kevin. I want the YCs to be somewhere young people can find their confidence, take responsibility and learn from one another. A healthier internal culture matters because the experience people have now will shape how they lead in years to come. Some will aspire to Parliament. Others will make their contribution through business, their profession or their local community. All deserve an organisation that takes their development seriously. That’s the future I’d like to see, and why Kevin has my support. I’d encourage YC members to vote for him. Good luck, Kevin. Having been on the receiving end of one of your election victories, I’d quite like to be cheering this time.

After the Green Party's "Zionism is Racism" vote, the Leader of Haringey Council, which is controlled by the Greens, wrote to various Synagogues in the borough to "reassure" them. I want to show you Highgate Synagogue's reply. I believe it is worth reading in its entirety.

Jewish Greens in tears as their party - one many of them have been members of for decades - votes against protecting their right to attend synagogue
Amendment 3 on Jewish safety, clarifying that members will not be targeted for attending Zionist synagogues, has fallen 648 to 1026. Not even close - some Jewish greens expected to leave the party now

I feel as though I’ve just woken up from a Coma. Since when was the word “Homosexual” too controversial? With everything facing the UK right now, is this seriously where our political discourse has ended up.
EXCL: The Green party has produced an Orwellian glossary of ‘unacceptable’ language ahead of its conference this weekend. Its new ‘Inclusive Terminology Guidance’ instructs members to stop using words and phrases including ‘elderly’, ‘female politician’ and ‘mothers and fathers’. Also discouraged are ‘able-bodied’, ‘sex-change’, ‘homosexual’, ‘a nutter’, ‘youngster’ and ‘sexual preference’. The guidance recommends replacing ‘gendered job titles’ with ‘gender-neutral terms wherever possible’. Members should say ‘chair’ instead of ‘chairman’, ‘police officer’ instead of ‘policeman’ and ‘parents and carers’ rather than mothers and fathers.

In my kitchen there is a jar of honey gifted to me by Phil Rosenberg, the President of the Board of Deputies, who insisted I take it home for my family, along with a bag of apples, because it would not be a proper new year otherwise. So let me begin the simple way: Shana tova u'metuka. A good and sweet new year to every Jewish family in Britain. The custom of dipping an apple in honey is one of the most hopeful things I know. It is not a claim that the year gone by was sweet. It is a decision that the year ahead should be. And I know that the year behind us has been anything but. Two Jewish men, Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby both of blessed memory, were murdered at the gates of Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in an antisemitic terror attack on Yom Kippur, defending their synagogue and those praying inside it. As Mayor of Greater Manchester, I felt first-hand the anxiety that attack caused across the Jewish community. The sorrow and fear of that day have not disappeared. As Yom Kippur approaches once again, I know many people will remember them and reflect on what that attack meant. So, this message has to be more than a greeting for the chaggim. It has to contain a commitment. Jewish people must be able to live, worship, go to school, attend synagogue and participate fully in British life without fear. That is why we are investing more than £250 million to increase policing, improve community safety and tackle rising antisemitism, bringing total government investment in Jewish security to almost £310 million. In recent days, the Housing Secretary and I have heard directly from Jewish community leaders about the challenges they face and the anxiety many families are experiencing as the High Holy Days approach. That is why we have established a Cabinet committee on antisemitism, bringing departments together to ensure our response is coordinated, comprehensive and sustained. But security is only one part of the response. We have to tackle antisemitism at its source. We are also investing £7 million to tackle antisemitism in schools, colleges and universities, including support for Jewish students, staff training and action to address misinformation and promote respectful discussion. And we are expanding the Common Ground programme to support communities facing the greatest risk of antisemitism and help local leaders respond when tensions rise. British Jews have helped build the schools, charities, businesses and institutions that make our country stronger. From the NHS and education to the arts, innovation and entrepreneurship, their contribution has enriched every part of our national life. The contribution the Jewish community makes to British life is remarkable- and we should celebrate it. This new year, my commitment is simple: to work every day to ensure that Jewish people are safe, valued and able to live their lives free from fear. May the year ahead be sweet, and may it be safe. Shana tova.

Huge shoes to fill. @ClaireCoutinho has been an incredible Shadow Energy- an inspiration, a friend and a great boss. Energy is key to everything that we do. It keeps the wheels of our economy moving, allows us to get to work or school, keeps our families warm, and our country safe. Since Labour entered office doing all of that has become more expensive. They have blindly pursued ideological targets over bringing down costs for families and businesses. Cheap power is the @Conservatives priority. As a North East Scot I've seen firsthand the impact of Labour's war on our oil and gas industry. It cannot go on. For the sake of our economy, our energy security, and British jobs we must allow our oil and gas industry do what it does best. Get oil and gas out of the ground and into Britain. To reindustrialise Britain and face the future with confidence we will require an abundance of energy. Through new nuclear we can deliver clean and plentiful electricity to create a stronger economy, and a stronger country. I am proud to be part of @KemiBadenoch 's team and the fight for that future.

For too long, people have said that cheaper transport isn't an option. I don't accept that. l've done it before and now I'm doing it again: a £2 cap on bus fares for millions across the country.

Today the Home Office announces it will designate three Islamist organisations, including the IRGC, due to their horrific ongoing campaigns against Jewish communities (not to mention Persian dissidents). Andy Burnham has issued an apology for Gaza. Days later I am yet to hear a word from him or his team on the Islamist threat to Jews on HOME SOIL. I will be writing more on this for the Spec shortly.
