BBC PAID HIM 6X MORE.
THE TRIBUNAL SAID THAT WAS ILLEGAL.
Samira Ahmed @SamiraAhmedUK presented Newswatch on @BBC for years. Same format. Same length. Same job. Read viewer feedback on camera, wrap it up, go home.
Jeremy Vine @theJeremyVine did exactly the same thing on Points of View.
She got £440 per episode. He got £3,000.
Ahmed spent years trying to fix it quietly through internal BBC processes. The BBC said there was no problem.
She filed for tribunal. In January 2020, the tribunal ruled unanimously in her favour. The BBC could not explain the difference. They tried. They argued Vine needed "a glint in the eye" and to be "cheeky."
The tribunal said that was not a skill. It was a story the BBC told itself.
The total underpayment was close to £700,000. Sarah Montague, another BBC woman, settled separately for around £400,000.
The National Union of Journalists flagged around 70 more cases waiting resolution internally. After Ahmed won, 700 BBC women received pay rises.
The BBC's statement after losing? They regretted it had gone to tribunal.
Not that they paid a woman six times less than a man for the same work for years. Just that it became public.

One of the highlights of my time in Jordan was visiting UNWRA archives and examining the index cards and other records of the 750,000 Palestinians kicked off their land at the Nakba in 1948. They used to be kept in Gaza and were airlifted out at the beginning of the genocide- Israel has destroyed all the archives that remained. They form the best evidence for some form of reparations in the future and are now being scanned and digitalised

Gaza and the Turning of History: The Middle East Before and After ARDD Organizes William Dalrymple’s Visit to UNRWA Archives and High-Level Dialogue on Palestine
للمزيد: ardd-jo.org/news/%d8%ba%d8%b…
The Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD), through its Renaissance Strategic Center (RSC), organised, under the theme “Gaza and the Turning of History: The Middle East Before and After,” a visit to the UNRWA Photo and Film Archives with renowned British historian and author William Dalrymple, alongside a high-level working lunch bringing together diplomats, academics, policymakers, and regional experts to reflect on Gaza and Palestine within the broader historical and political transformations shaping the Middle East.
During the visit to the UNRWA Archives, facilitated in cooperation with UNRWA, Dalrymple explored historical records documenting Palestinian displacement, refugee experiences, and collective memory since 1948. Recognized by UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme, the archives underscore the importance of preserving Palestinian history, identity, and the experiences of generations of refugees.

For those of you who thought the visit from a Bedford Borough Council official to investigate our daughter Zoe’s (age 12) pretend teddy bear cafe was too ridiculous to be real, here is the arrival of official. This is totally legit. She really did show up at our property to investigate the illegal teddy bears having their coffee🧸🧸☕️☕️

Any comment, JD Vance? Or should I call you James David Vance? J.D. Hamel? James David Hamel? James Donald Bowman?

“It was like this biblical battle where the Palestinian men … went in front of me to protect … me and my rescuers from being attacked again,” Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine told Jake Tapper.
Levine was kicked, beaten with clubs and robbed by Israeli settlers while covering Friday’s olive harvest in the occupied West Bank, leaving her with multiple broken bones. Speaking after leaving the hospital, she said Israeli soldiers charged Palestinian farmers as settlers advanced alongside them. She said that unlike her, Palestinian victims endure these attacks daily, with absolutely nowhere safe to go.

'If mothers can conceal their lives from their daughters, Khadivi is right to point to how daughters can carry forward, resist or remake the legacies they inherit. As Heti comes to understand in this intriguing and unusual novel, perhaps the more important question may be not what we inherit, but what we choose to become'

The West has a remarkable talent for manufacturing its own enemies. Mohammad Mossadegh was Iran’s democratically elected prime minister. His crime was not abolishing elections or erecting concentration camps. His crime was insisting that Iranian oil should primarily benefit Iranians rather than foreign corporations. So Britain and the United States helped overthrow him, replacing democracy with the Shah’s dictatorship. Every lecture about freedom delivered since then has had to compete with the memory of 1953.
The pattern never really changed. Democracy is applauded when it delivers governments aligned with Western interests. When voters choose the wrong people, democracy suddenly becomes optional. Coups, sanctions, dictators, invasions, then bewilderment when the puppet eventually falls and something far more hostile takes its place. Western hegemony has spent decades killing democracy abroad, only to discover that the regimes it installs are eventually overthrown as well. Few geopolitical strategies have been so spectacularly self-defeating.
