Unfortunately I believe those numbers will keep on rising. Which probably also leads to more people taking SSRIs or Benzos instead of working on the actual issue.

Always dodging your emotions means you are always in a defensive state and more importantly, in a fight. A fight with yourself, your mind, and your life. That fighting is what keeps you in fight or flight.

How often do you actually think about your body? Only when it jurts, right? So if you constantly think about your mind, what does that tell you?

One thing I wish I understood sooner: Meditation is not to not feel anxiety. It is there so you can feel the thing fully, and relax while you do.

A regulated nervous system is not one that never gets activated. It is one that can get activated and come back down. A controlled nervous system is one you are constantly holding in a vice, terrified that the moment you relax your grip, it will fly apart.
15
Your need for control is what is keeping you stuck. Because you never actually let the thing happen, you never get the evidence that you could survive it. The bracing prevents the very trust you are starving for.

Even having the most regulated and resilient nervous systems does not mean you never feel anxious. It just means you get back to a calm state faster.

The more I opened up, the more people opened up to me. I realized how many people struggle. You not only feel better because you do not have to pretend anymore, but you realize you are not alone.

You picture the beach. The warm sun. The water. It feels real. You actually want it. Then it's time to book. The flights load. And something shifts. Suddenly you're not sure you wanted it at all. The wanting evaporates. You think the trip was never really for you. It was.

There are two versions of you. The one who books the trip and means it. And the one anxiety shows you when it gets real. The afraid one isn't more honest. He's just louder.

A blood sugar crash fires the same chemicals as a panic attack. Adrenaline. Cortisol. The racing heart. The restlessness. The unease with no cause. Same chemicals. Same job. Whether the trigger is a lion or a cinnamon bun.

The voice that says "stay home, you never really wanted it" is not your voice. It's the fear talking. And fear always lies about what you want. It has to. If you remembered the wanting, you'd go.

The anxiety that has no cause usually has one: glucose. A spike, a flood of insulin, a crash, a stress response. Most people reach for a calm-down technique. They should put the donut back down.
