Found this so scary as a kid. Now I’m just impressed with how they managed to blend the animation and live-action hand held cam footage together so well
On this day in 1999, Cartoon Network aired a 24-hour Scooby-Doo marathon for Halloween. The marathon was filled with little clips between episodes parodying THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT which had been released in theaters just a few a few months earlier.

Tim Sweeney fired 1000 employees which is still having effects on Fortnite to this day, while also forcing the rest of his employees to make a star wars/marvel game mode using GenAI... He is everything that's wrong with the gaming industry and he doesn't get ENOUGH hate.
The worst read in the gaming industry RN is the hate on @TimSweeneyEpic . He fought platforms like Apple charging 30% fees which cost gamers and devs. This includes steam who BANS Developers if they offer their games cheaper on other stores who take less cut. He buys forests just to turn them into nature reserves. Epic store is not NEARLY as good as steam yet. But they take WAY less money from developers and literally hand out free AAA games each months. Does it need time to expand features? Yes. Are any of those factors something that is motivated by 'evil' no. And MOST of all. He's 100% correct that its not 2016. Like it or not AI is existing. And the reason you only see the 'anti AI' comments are because the 95% of developers who ARE using it RIGHT NOW are just scared of the backlash. This doesnt mean they're just vibe code 1-shotting games. They're utelising it to create workflows that streamline otherwise time consuming (and ultimately not 'player experience' defining factors). Stupid 1-shot assets/entire code bases are not what AI is actually being used for. But there are thousands of talented developers using it in a very thoughtful, structured way which gives them full creative control. We all are 'scared' by AI - and what it means for jobs, creativity, and creation as a whole. But it DOES NOT change the fact that Tim sweeney isnt wrong. He's just the person with the balls to actually say what is true.

The literacy crisis isn’t that people can’t read the words. It’s that they can’t understand the context, infer meaning, recognise nuance, identify contradictions, or draw logical conclusions from what they’ve read

correct, i don't use it. i'm smarter than the people who do, that's why
So the people that are anti AI, do you like, not use AI at all??? Like not using it for generative art, and paying artists, I understand, but you're behinnnndddd if you refuse to touch it

We all understand those dancers were not really Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders right? They were all in wigs, and on top of that the DCC is a multimillion dollar org that'd never allow their reps to be a part of a show as violent or political as last night's. This one has a side shave

Learned more about the making of the Blair Witch Project and I am SO angry on behalf of Mike, Josh and Heather. I am one of those people who saw it in the theater and was completely ignorant about how the film was actually made. All of the confusion and viral marketing around it led to so much misinformation and ambiguity, especially since their real names were used as the names of the characters they portrayed. These three young people were improvisational actors. They were NOT deceived or misled in order to get them to “act better.” They never felt genuinely scared or went truly hungry. Yes, they really camped and no, they were not given scripts, but they knew the general plot line and were given prompts every day to help them improvise. They had to be trained to use cameras. They filmed the entire movie, every scene, THEMSELVES with hand held cameras and without ANY director telling them what to do. It was all instinct and improvisation and acting their butts off. And they made creative storyline decisions that were brilliant and inspired. Michael C. Williams decided to kick the map into the river and he didn’t tell anyone, and he instinctively chose the moment when they were all laughing to inform Heather and Josh of what he did. He came up with that and it was a HUGE moment in the film that changed the trajectory. And Heather responded to it brilliantly, as well. Heather improvised her entire flashlight monologue and cried real tears, not because she was abused or genuinely frightened by the crew, but because she was a GOOD ACTOR. And after this film became huge and broke records for being the most profitable movie ever made, the studio screwed these kids out of a reasonable paycheck that would have changed their lives and been a drop in the bucket for the studio given how huge the profits were. The three young artists who made this movie everything it is did not have agents or representation, so they got nothing. Additionally, because of the way in which the film was marketed and all of the confusion around it, everyone (including other studios and casting directors) thought these three were not really acting. They assumed they were having real moments of hunger and terror and stress, because the studio wanted everyone to believe that. They FILMED and ACTED and WROTE and IMPROVISED a timeless classic, got no money and no credit for it. When the box office broke $100M, the studio sent them fruit baskets. 😭 Hollywood is truly malevolent. This has to be the biggest injustice in Hollywood history.

My old tweet on this remains evergreen:
Remember: Game designers in the 80s and 90s were computer science majors who loved literature, classic fantasy and AD&D. There is a very obvious reason the AAA market had been declining for so long. I don't need to spell it out.

A law that restricts people's artistic freedoms because it's "icky" is a bad law.
if you’re angry over the new uk porn law because “there’s other matters that are more important” while that is true it doesn’t mean that it’s a bad law???? like you can be angry at the gov for focusing on other things but whyre we defending incest porn 😭😭

They made porn depicting fictional incest illegal but refused to pass a law to make marrying family illegal. So its fine to do in real life but depicting it in fiction is illegal. Cant wait to see them arrest anyone who watches game of thrones.

Unfortunately, we have to defend the disgusting porn. I've played these dang games before.
Choosing porn as the place to start this very obvious campaign to police our online access is so clever. Who wants to be publicly seen as championing incest and choking porn? It’s definitely a slippery slope though, that should worry people a little

Tim Sweeney is a MACHINE that turns: > we fired multiple essential employees into > Programming is hard into > Why is Fortnite launching Among Us?
Epic Games Launcher is so vide coded that instead of automatically restarting Fortnite, it booted up Among Us instead 💀💀
