A new mathematical challenge has been added to the Justin Sun Prize: the Strominger–Yau–Zaslow (SYZ) Conjecture.
First proposed in 1996, the conjecture has shaped decades of research at the intersection of mathematics and theoretical physics.
Here's the story behind it. 🧵
The SYZ Conjecture proposes that mirror symmetry can be understood through special geometric structures called special Lagrangian torus fibrations.
Nearly three decades later, it continues to inspire research in geometry and mathematical physics.
Despite major advances, the conjecture remains unresolved in its full generality.
Now, the Strominger–Yau–Zaslow Conjecture joins the challenges featured with an award of up to $65,537.

Curious about the Erdős problems? This is a good place to start. #JustinSunPrize
What are the Erdős problems? 🧮
Some of mathematics’ most challenging questions have remained unsolved for decades.
With the first #JustinSunPrize winners now announced, let’s explore the history behind these problems and why solving them matters. 🧵
Giving back to mathematics. Supporting the next breakthrough.
At @token2049 Singapore, @justinsuntron revisited the purpose of #JustinSunPrize: as AI accelerates discovery, recognition should keep pace.
Through open participation and more frequent awards, the prize aims to recognize contributions from people, AI and human–AI teams.
Awards reach up to US$1 million per problem. The first award payments are now being processed.

The Erdős problems are named after Paul Erdős (1913–1996), a Hungarian mathematician known for his extraordinary contributions to mathematics.
Throughout his career, Erdős posed and popularized hundreds of mathematical questions involving numbers, patterns, and mathematical structures.
Many were simple to state, yet remarkably difficult to solve.

More than 1,200 questions posed or popularized by Erdős have been catalogued, with hundreds still unsolved.
For decades, these problems have challenged mathematicians and inspired breakthroughs in number theory, combinatorics, and beyond.
Today, they remain an ongoing challenge for the next generation of mathematical thinkers.
