Is it possible #OmicronVariant sets us back to square one?
No
We have lots of tests that'll detect Omicron
We have therapies that'll work
Our vaccines MAY take a hit but will still provide some (may be a lot) protection
We are in a MUCH better place

really well said. Protect with research, not from research. FDA should have legal authority to demand clinical or authorize clinical trials of critical drugs submitted or approved & the requisite animal tox repro work. Coupled with a fund to make it happen. Chronic problem
Agreed. But it’s not just a money issue. We have no consensus on how to interpret and respond to the animal repro-tox data. The strong presumption is to exclude pregnant women, who are then left without treatment options. Protect them with research, not from research.
Why? "Molnupiravir works in a somewhat uncommon way, and there are concerns it could be unsafe for developing fetuses. The company's clinical trials did not include pregnant women" 5% of pop'n pregnant. Assess a preg tax on Pharma to fund & mandate data.

I don't understand the #COVID vaccine exemption in Florida for pregnant or potential future pregnancy (i.e. all women). Pregnancy is now known as high risk condition with #COVID19. Just codifying misinformation about adverse events?

< 1 in 3 pregnant women in the US are vaccinated. In Scotland, it's 1 in 4. Likely even worse where I do my research in India. Benefits of vaccination during pregnancy vastly outweigh risks. Get the vaccine. @bmj @Garethiacobucci bmj.com/content/375/bmj.n286… #pregnantandprotected
