Today we honor the women who spoke when silence was safer, who fought when the odds were brutal, and who refused to disappear when the world tried to erase them. We are the daughters of rebellion and the voices that will not be muted. We are here. And we are not going back.

In last week’s update to members our Director of Inclusivity and Diversity, @K1ranAltaf considers AI in Healthcare. ‘The recent decision by NHS England to pause its most ambitious AI initiative to date - an effort to apply predictive models across the health records of 57 million people - has raised serious questions. Yet its suspension, following concerns about patient consent and transparency, signals a broader issue we can no longer ignore. As a colorectal surgeon and someone closely involved in the AI space, I see this not as a failure, but as a signal - one that reminds us we can’t afford to treat governance as an afterthought.’ Read the full text here: asgbi.org.uk/news/2025/jul/1…

And there are even less in leadership/management positions or at the top of the hierarchy.
For the first time, there are more female than male doctors in the UK - great progress! But what about surgery? Only 16.9% of consultant surgeons are women. We must break barriers, foster mentorship & create pathways for people to thrive in surgery. #SurgeryForEveryone
