No one talks about the sensory overload for the adults in class, of fidget toys, standing desks, leg bands, wobble cushions, rocking chairs, adults whispering instructions. All good stuff for the children, but man do I find it tricky focussing to teach ๐Ÿ˜‚

Ofsted should NOT be inspecting what school staff do voluntarily, outside directed hours, without pay. Pushing back against things like this is precisely why Trade Unions exist rather than just legal representation. This MUST be resisted.

I will accept Nigel Farageโ€™s request to be appointed Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead. It is a farce and a desperate distraction, and the people of Clacton deserve better. But if he wants to spend the summer arguing with a bin, I won't stop him.

Completely insane. Management at the University of Exeter is threatening 85% of its staff in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with redundancy. What do these people even think universities are for? Solidarity with members of the EUCU.

Two decades ago there were 40+ Theology & Religious Studies providers in UK universities. Today, that number has roughly halved, and Exeter University is considering cutting more. @GLapshynov writes, this isn't a niche subject dying quietly - it's the erosion of our capacity to understand belief, culture and each other. theosthinktank.co.uk/commentโ€ฆ

University of Nottingham staff are facing cuts to more than 600 jobs and over 40 courses. This would be devastating for workers, students, and our city, as well as UK research. I recently met with @UoNUCU to discuss the impact on members, the lack of proper scrutiny in this process, and the need for a new funding formula for higher education. I am in contact with the university leadership and will continue to push for an outcome that protects as many jobs and courses as possible.

Today I asked the Government why taxpayers are subsidising poverty pay. The DWP says 1.2 million people are working full-time but still rely on Universal Credit because their wages are too low. I asked whether large employers will be required to report how many of their workers need Universal Credit. Work should pay enough to live on. No one working full time should go hungry. #RightToFoodCommission #EndPovertyPay

The widespread promotion of fidget toys, particularly by special education teachers, is one of the most obviously stupid ideas in my time in education. If a student is distractible, you donโ€™t hand them a distraction. This is one of those things we donโ€™t really need a study for. The research can be done in the mind of any rational person after even a momentโ€™s thought.
Psychologists often prescribe classroom adjustments for children that are not evidence-based. Teachers then implement these adjustments. Teachers are also allowed to have opinions on the fact these adjustments are not evidence-based and on this whole bizarre process.

Yesterday 142 academic staff @unilincoln were put at risk of redundancy including the entire Politics and International Relations team. This follows cuts since 2024 which have already seen over 500 people leave the university. This is the 'University of No Regrets'.

I am deeply relieved we have a cautious, pragmatic PM in office in these tumultuous times and I think it dangerous and ridiculous to expect him to do anything other than monitor an evolving situation before making a move that could , indeed would put British lives in the line of fire. Can we just let him do his job pleaseโ€ฆ
