OCTOBER COVER STORY: @KB_HGA
KB has never been afraid to say exactly what he believes. But his new album, THIS CANNOT BE SOLD, turns some of those convictions inward.
In our latest CCM Magazine cover story, KB opens up about faith, fame, performative Christianity, the influence of algorithms, the dangers of Christian celebrity, and the things in life that should never have a price.
“The goal for us is that we would be more Christian than we are artist.”

I could really use your prayers during this season of my life. I’m not telling you all of this just to complain, but because I want your prayers. My conditions (CVID & autoimmune myositis) have brought everything to a halt. My plans, aspirations, ability to work, and many other things. Seminary is on hold. Any steps toward holy orders are on hold. On the physical side of things, I haven’t walked without severe back and leg pain in over a year. I haven’t had a night of uninterrupted or painless sleep in over a year. I’ve been hospitalized 5 times in the last year.
But I think the emotional toll is the hardest part. I never expected my life to look like this at 28. I went from traveling the world, climbing mountains, doing ministry and academic work, to having to step back from everything. There’s so much I still want to do. So much I believe I’m called to. I want to serve God, His church, and His people. I long for it daily, but I’m so limited in what I can do right now.
I don’t understand why I have to go through this right now, but I know God knows better than I. I trust that somehow He is forming me and sanctifying me through this.
Friends, would you pray for me? Pray that I don’t give into despair. Pray that I can have joy even in the midst of intense physical pain. Pray for my healing. There are signs of hope on the horizon, and my doctors do believe it is most likely possible to get me back to living a normal life, but it’s a process and takes time. Pray most of all that I become even more of the man God would have me be through all of this, and that I grow into the likeness of Christ. Much love to you all.

The early church was (1) multi-ethnic/against racism, (2) committed to the poor, (3) practiced forgiveness and reconciliation, (4) anti-abortion/pro-life, and (5) was committed to sex only within marriage between a man and a woman. Holding those five views all together was seen as radical and out of step with the culture. See here for more: buff.ly/G0eDiYL

I try to warn college guys about this all the time. Pick a job that allows you to be a present husband and father, even if it means earning less money and living in a smaller house.

Great reminder! My verse for today is
Psalm 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.
So your quote lines up perfectly! Thank you! Praying we get to the place where we walk so completely in the affections and love of God that we forget about ourselves. The Freedom I want is a Freedom from self, self-focus, self-love, self-reliance, self-promotion…If we could learn to abide in Christ at all times, never letting our consciousness of His abiding presence go—“setting the Lord always before us”—we would experience true Freedom! —-To this end we strive, resting in the Lord of the Sabbath!
Praying for you my brother! So thankful for you! Be encouraged today—your gifts, life, and ministry has affected me and my house for over 20 years! Keep it up!

Some of you may have heard that Mark Dever almost died about two months ago. Even after his life was spared, it wasn’t clear whether he would ever speak or preach again. I haven’t talked about it much and won’t even now because he and the church haven’t been talking about it much--at least not that I have seen publicly.
Today, however, is his first Sunday back in the pulpit at Capitol Hill Baptist Church, and it was glorious. He launched right into the sermon without even acknowledging his absence. In other words, Mark preached like he wasn’t the point. Not until the last three minutes does he reflect on what happened and give a stirring tear-stained invitation for sinners to trust in Christ and be saved.
The sermon itself is wonderful. He takes up the difficult question of whether the American Revolution was justified. He concludes that it was and gives a defense of it and the reasons outlined in the Declaration of Independence. But that is only the introduction. The main part of the sermon is an exposition and application of Romans 13:1-7.
I am so grateful for this message. I am so grateful that God spared Mark’s life and preserved his ministry. I am so grateful for Mark Dever. Hallelujah. Listen to all of this one.

Derek Redmond tore his hamstring halfway through the 400m semi-final at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Refusing to quit, he limped on the track in agony. His father, Jim Redmond, pushed past security, embraced his son, and helped him cross the finish line in an iconic display of the Olympic spirit.
