Opinion: We need more diversity in our genomic databases. The ones we have now are too heavily skewed toward people of European descent. bit.ly/2rnhElf

8. Rehearses “so... wanna go to my room?”
Guys plan a smooth line and then freeze when the moment comes. Skip the line.
Kiss her slow on the couch, then take her hand and lead her to the bedroom. Your hand on hers says everything the line meant to say.

One of the greatest sculptors of all time was born 269 years ago today, on November 1, 1757.
His name was Antonio Canova, and this is Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss, a marble sculpture he carved between 1787 and 1793. It depicts the most tender moment of an ancient love story: in the myth, Psyche was warned never to open a certain jar, but she couldn’t resist, and fell into a sleep so deep it was like death. Cupid flies down to find her, and here he holds her in his arms, about to wake her with a kiss, while she reaches up to draw him closer.
Part of the magic lies in how Canova worked with light: even in his first clay sketches he studied how light would fall across his figures, and he poured all his skill into the final stage of the work, which he called the “last hand.” He would smooth and polish the stone for weeks, often working by candlelight to see every curve, and rub a thin mixture of wax into the skin to take away the cold shine of the marble and make it glow softly, like real flesh.
He was born in the small village of Possagno and raised by a grandfather who was a stonemason, which is how he came to be carving marble before he was even ten. He spent his whole life trying to make stone breathe, and it’s no surprise that Lord Byron once wrote that Canova could create what nature could, but would not...

”an artist with zero skills” aka @antrofrog_ emerged in the last 40 days across socials, this video alone has now done somewhere around 200M views in 36h across platforms.
created by Antrogfrog using @midjourney and @krea_ai it is an absolute masterpiece in storytelling for short form.
Each clip has a hook, and build suspense and release, stacking on each other while all of them stay true to the premise.
a british gentleman in New York. each clip is perfect in length, music most likely drove the story, and the entire short ends with a morale. No need for gentlemen to stand in lines. You don’t need to be an asshole to skip lines, just do good. be good.
This is also not a one hit wonder on a specific platform, this video goes viral anywhere it’s posted, by antrofrog or people just downloading and re-uploading.
Within 5 hours he posted 2 separate videos on Instagram using this character and the second video sits at 62M views and counting.
this shows that while barrier to entry is lower than ever, true skills in storytelling and delivery still is the biggest moat. we might call it taste, because it sure ain’t luck.
A secondary outcome is that on Instagram Antrofrog now has 325k followers and the basics to continue to do what ever art they fancy doing.
what are you waiting for? in Antros own words:

Nature has a remarkable way of creating its own works of art.
This beautiful Japanese maple, photographed from below at Kubota Garden, looks almost like a living sculpture.
Incredible photography by Carl Prothman. 🍁

ALT Looking straight up from beneath a Japanese maple tree. Thick, dark, wet branches twist and curl in every direction against a canopy of orange and gold fall leaves, with small patches of pale sky showing through. The smooth bark shines where it is wet. The scene feels quiet and sheltered, like standing inside a sculpture.
