KP Clicker Training

A recent study that evaluates the efficacy of the clicker is generating lots of conversation within the training community. I share my thoughts on that study and on clicker use in my March letter, which you can read here: clickertraining.com/thoughts… #RanchKPCT

Day 2 of ClickerExpo Live is complete! Here's a peek at Goat Cam sponsored by @Blue9Pet. Goats are climbers, so using KLIMBs for enrichment allows us to provide treats in high places! We sound the recall and the goats come running. Sunday's the last chance to watch it live.

Day 1 of ClickerExpo Live is complete. Between formal sessions there were activities to occupy attendees. One was Donkey Cam sponsored by our Conference sponsor @kongcompany. The mini-donkeys loved the wobblers, but enjoyed dozens of other new enrichment opportunities from KONG.

ClickerExpo Live officially starts on Friday, but Thursday morning we had a faculty and speaker meeting. So many talented people all together at one time, we couldn't get them all on one screen. #ClickerExpo

Handling the goats for this week's Live from the Ranch broadcast was more challenging than anticipated. You can see the full recording of the broadcast with my guest @ksdao on our website. But to watch the chaos behind the scenes, enjoy this video. #RanchKPCT

This blast from the past, me and a rescued dolphin named Lucky, from 1985, reminds me of some light-hearted stories from quarantine when I helped care for stranded dolphins. So many parallels to this unusual time we're in. You can find the new article at clickertraining.com/stories-…

Chow was in the Training Center with the agility hurdles! The goats won't be using the equipment for the Guest at the Ranch workshop w/Emelie Johnson Vegh & Eva Bertilsson later this month, but they will be part of the experience. Even observers get hands on time! #RanchKPCT

Made a breakthrough with the alpacas today. Usually too skittish to work separately, Blanca allowed me to separate her from the group and work with her alone! Exciting new possibilities! #RanchKPCT

ClickerExpo Luminos kicks off tomorrow with a focus on problem solving & aggression treatment. This is our planning dinner with our wonderful speakers. Jesus Rosales-Ruiz, Aaron Clayton, Susan Friedman, Emma Parsons, Grisha Stewart, & Lindsay Wood Brown. #ClickerExpoLuminos2019

I was excited to see prototypes of some new enrichment products from Kong. These are a few new puncture proof toys designed for large animals. They're not on the market yet, but when they are, I plan to get some for our animals at the Ranch! #RanchKPCT #kong #animalenrichment

Blanca took a turn working the KPA booth at #ClickerExpo2019 hoping to convince attendees to visit her at the Ranch. #RanchKPCT

Late night discussions, brain full of new ideas #ClickerExpo2019 - Skye butted his way into the coffee line this morning. I'll give him a break, it is a new environment for him. #RanchKPCT

The animals may not quite be actual size, but it was our best effort to bring a bit of the Ranch to #ClickerExpo2019. Moonglow, Blanca, and Skye are posing for pics all weekend. Here we are with Sam and Hannah! #RanchKPCT

Arrived in Portland tonight, ClickerExpo kicks off Thursday evening. Looking forward to meeting all the attendees. #ClickerExpo

Day 2 of the Deep Dive Course, students and coaches are hanging with their goats after a good training session on a gloriously beautiful day. #RanchKPCT

Marlin was a great demo dog all week at the Training for Professionals course. Here he's helping me demonstrate husbandry behaviors! #RanchKPCT

Sparkle and Rosie, our two mini-donkey foals, love frolicking in the snow. Notice how Tulip, the goats, and the alpacas watch but stay out of their way! Everyday is a treasure! #RanchKPCT
