If, as Buddhists believe, we are not really separate, then one’s own mind is not actually a private place. What is in our minds creates and influences the world we all think we occupy.

Historian Sarah Paine: When Putin dies, there's no democratic election. It's a free-for-all.
Nobody in his network knows who takes over, and many Russians have military training, so civil war is possible. Recovery might take 10 years, a number I'm making up. 1/

I was in the room multiple times when President Biden met with and prayed with Catholic bishops.
They didn’t run cameras, because he and those present didn’t want to politicize prayer and encounter for electoral gain.
When Biden lost his second child in May 2015, he prayed nearly all night in front of the Blessed Sacrament.
It’s the same thing he did in 1972 when he lost his daughter and late wife to a drunk driver.
He went to Mass every single Sunday as president, oftentimes next to the parish cemetery of his children, and relied on his faith to guide him through hell and high water.
You might not like his politics, but I encourage you to act with Christian charity towards the sincerity of his faith and take the view of the late Pope Francis, who called him a “good Catholic” in 2021.

What’s a polite way to tell someone, “I’m not discussing this with you because your entire understanding of the subject is built on so many interconnected misconceptions that correcting them would require uninstalling your current worldview and starting the tutorial from birth”?

There is water under the Colosseum!
Emperor Vespasian (AD 69-79) ordered the construction of the Colosseum over Nero’s private lake. Nero (AD 54-68) had probably filled the area with water from the Aqua Claudia as part of his extravagant palace, the Domus Aurea (golden house).
Although it is a matter of academic debate, Emperor Vespasian’s sons and successors, Titus and Domitian, probably filled the Colosseum at least once during each of their reigns to stage naval battles (naumachia).
The amphitheater also seems to have been built on fluvial soil, and excavations of the hypogeum (the underground structure of tunnels beneath the arena) in 1811 and 1874 were halted because groundwater flooded the site. In the 1930’s, under Mussolini, vast resources were employed to solve this issue.
A 2020 study concluded that “four streams, now hidden by urbanization, flow toward the center of the Colosseum from the surroundings— Oppian-Esquiline hill, Caelian hill, Labicano Valley, and the Via dei Fori Imperiali.” What you see here is the channeled water of the Labicano stream.

Reading posts by foreigners about Brazil, I get the impression that you're not aware of the full extent of the accusations against Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro, or of the available evidence of his corruption.
So I'd like to kindly invite you to really get to know Flávio. A thread 🧵🇧🇷

a) The script of “Dark Horse” became a laughingstock. The trailer makes the budget — never made public — look implausible. The film also got public money, via congressional earmarks and São Paulo City Hall. The Federal Police are investigating possible misappropriation of funds.

"New records obtained by KARE 11 show the company that owned a vacant private prison in Appleton, Minnesota offered to sell it to the state in 2025 for $75 million.
One year later, the Trump administration agreed to use taxpayer funds to buy the same abandoned prison from CoreCivic, Inc., for $495.6 million.
The price difference, $420 million, is more than taxpayers are estimated to have lost in Minnesota’s much-publicized Feeding Our Future fraud scandal." kare11.com/article/news/inve…

But things weren’t going his way in Iran
so like a baby tossing the toys from a pram
it feels like another distraction
while the Epstein files were getting traction
but they’ll come out
and we’ll say “there you go”
and then we’ll all dive into Lake Ontario

My thoughts: Trump is a cancelling all his rallies and will spend time this weekend playing golf and plotting how to overthrow/create chaos for the midterms.
Their internal polling predicts a total disaster on Tuesday and the GOP has decided their resources will best be spent on attacking the integrity of our elections instead of campaigning.

"Within days, Russian soldiers poisoned their dog, an Alabai, along with all the other large dogs in Oleshky. They killed Liudmila’s nextdoor neighbor and raped his wife. A local butcher disappeared; no one knew whether he was also killed. Some neighbors were detained and beaten. Armed, masked soldiers searched Liudmila’s home three times, confiscating the couple’s Ukrainian passports and leaving them with no documents. And yet, Liudmila and Andriy stayed. They got a new puppy, also an Alabai. Russian troops started to move into civilian houses, parking tanks in what once were gardens."
