I’m looking for a few people with progressive disabilities to serve as low-lift advisory readers on a paper about how students narrate the purpose/value of higher ed beyond ROI. You’d review an RQ + 3 short theme summaries and share whether they resonate. DM if interested!

All advisory readers would receive an acknowledgement in the paper, should they want one 😊

Excited to share this recent interview I did with @ABADisability on disability-related financial concerns for disabled college students!

This is HUGE news in the chronic illness community. It’s also a beautiful reminder of the fact that chronically ill folks are living longer and healthier lives than ever before. ❤️ This means that we have got to plan better for these folks in spaces like higher education.
Huntington's disease was successfully treated for the first time with gene therapy. 75% reduction in symptoms & 113% protection of cognition. This is what a real medical breakthrough looks like.

A lot of disabilities are costly, but chronic illnesses tend to be especially. Financial aid offices/forms haven’t caught up to accounting for these expenses. VR can help, but VR varies so much by state + folks don’t often know about the postsecondary 💰 support they offer.

If you know a chronically ill student who wants to go to college 1) Help them apply for VR in their state 2) Tell them about the unusual expense amendment they can submit with their FAFSA 3) Encourage them to reach out to financial aid offices to ask about med. expense support

Not my typical academic news, but I wrote this short piece for @MSNewsToday and thought I would share. My mom’s advocacy for me is what made me want to advocate for other chronically ill folks as a career. She’s also just the coolest mom 🥰 multiplesclerosisnewstoday.c…

Thrilled to be joining the Editorial Board for @JDHEtweets this year! I published my 1st paper with JDHE as a grad student. The support I received set the standard for how I think publishing should work, and I can’t wait to support future new scholars in this role 😊
