Kids get better at reading through...lots of reading.

Why does this fact continue to come in and out of vogue?

So many educators complain to me that kids lack “stamina” for reading, but the kids never read anything longer than a textbook chapter or anthology short story.

“That’s me and my daddy,” said the cutest 🫶🏼 kindergartener ever! I’m so ✨ proud that RBB has 🌎 diverse libraries in our classrooms. Thank you @KateRBPS for all the work you put in to make this happen over the years. 💜

On day ✌🏼 of making books, this writer used translanguaging by adding a speech bubble to say “agua” (ogwa 😍) which is something he says when playing firefighter on the playground with friends. 👏🏼🤩 @MsFoster_RBPS @rbpsEAGLES #RBBisBIA

So much student growth is not recognized by standardized tests. This young reader knows that stamina matters; no mention of longer books, harder books, or higher levels. This reflects beautiful teaching. @DrMaryHoward @ssvincent

Differentiation is designing instruction with students in mind, and a remedy for the ineffective one-size-fits-all model.
It's not impossible. It's not unrealistic. It's what we are supposed to do as teachers.
Everything on the left-hand column is considered good practice.

❤️ for all my fellow teachers

ALT For a Teacher Yes, you will be tired. You will be tested by their wild hearts. But those hearts are little fires in the darkness. Remember what the gift is. Remember to help a voice begin is a sacred act. Remember no one knows when they've been saved. Listen. Let the world say all is ruined. You know where the changes start, in darkness. Start again with the small things, the smallest things. Breathe. Be open. Keep going. Show them you are listening, in wonder. Gentleness is the next revolution. Help them all to say each other's names. —Joseph Fasano

Each one of my 5th graders created a favorite books list on a given topic of their choice: flashlight books, books with mean parents, books you can’t stop reading, etc. They made a video book talking them, and we linked it with a QR to their page in our Favorite Books book. Good times.
