It changes the board. And Putin was overdue for this. So the next guy is awful, at least the board is changing.
They weren't explorers; they were tourists. No one would have benefited from their experience but them. May they rest in peace, dear tourists.
This brings to mind Everest summits: There's no new ground to explore, it's just dangerous, costly tourism for bragging rights. The wreck has given all it can. Let all of it rest in history.
Obviously this is sad. But imagine what the half million could've done for science & exploration short of a vanity voyage. Their passions were sadly misdirected.

Now it's been 36 years since its release. The equivalent? 1998. Dirty Dancing 1998. I'm picturing Seattle and a lot of flannel.
