Online betting will ruin more lives than the opioid crisis.
A 29-year-old pest control salesman says he bets on sports every day, wagering between $80,000 and $120,000 a year — as much as or more than his $97,000 salary. He tells @JimAxelrod he sometimes puts an entire paycheck on his bets. cbsnews.com/news/sports-bett…

The fact that New York City has a pro-Islamist Mayor who sanitizes the terrorists responsible for murdering nearly 3,000 innocent Americans on 9/11 is an absolute disgrace to the city, the victims, and their families.

🚨Tragic. American mother Jamey Carney, 43, found DEAD in her Ireland home! Jamey dove into pro-Palestine activism in Ireland and allowed Ahmed Al-Saqar, a Jordanian asylum seeker, to stay at her Killarney home. Earlier this week, her 13-year-old daughter finds her beaten to death in bed. Al-Sahar then flees to Turkey hours later. This is suicidal empathy in action: romanticizing enemies, importing danger, and paying with your life. Western women and nations keep learning this lesson the hard way. Stop the madness. Secure the borders. Face reality.

Sean Collier would have been a Somerville police officer today if he was not cut down in cold blood by the Boston Marathon bombers
Today, we honor and remember Officer Sean Collier. His dedication to the MIT community and his ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.

57 seconds. This whole incident is tragic, but the sole reason it wasn’t worse was because APD officers responded and were on scene in seconds. Patrol officers and CAST (team of APD officers and ATCEMS paramedics together) moved with incredible speed to stop the killing. Our hearts go out to all those affected by this both victims and family. The utterly amazing statistic in this all is that when seconds count - officers ran towards the gunfire and were there in 57seconds. That’s a heroic speed.

NEW: Woman in the Swiss ski bar fire says she witnessed a miracle, says the flames completely avoided her friend, who sat down with a cross in his hand when he became trapped. "A friend of mine couldn’t get out, and he just sat down and held his cross in his hand." "The fire just avoided him. The fire didn't touch him. The fire was all around him but not on him." Praise God.

There was a line from Zohran Mamdani’s inaugural address yesterday that took my breath away. He said he intended to replace “the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.” Collectivism in its various forms is responsible for the deaths of at least one hundred million people in the last century. Socialist and Communist forms of government around the world today—Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, etc.—are disastrous. Catholic social teaching has consistently condemned socialism and has embraced the market economy, which people like Mayor Mamdani caricature as “rugged individualism.” In fact, it is the economic system that is based upon the rights, freedom, and dignity of the human person. For God’s sake, spare me the “warmth of collectivism.”

For decades, Jackson, MS Local 87 has been without a collectively bargained contract. Not anymore. Local 87 and city leaders agree that a stronger fire service means a safer Jackson for residents and fire fighters. Their new contract helps deliver on that promise.

Shameful and depraved. She was convicted of the murder New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster, who was executed in cold blood. There are so many worthy heroes to celebrate. She is not one of them.
Rest in Power, Rest in Peace, Assata Shakur. 🕊️ Today we honor the life and legacy of a revolutionary fighter, a fierce writer, a revered elder of Black liberation, and a leader of freedom whose spirit continues to live in our struggle. Assata refused to be silenced. She taught us that “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”

Assata Shakur was convicted in 1977 of 1st-degree murder in the 1973 killing of a New Jersey State Trooper and sentenced to life plus 33 years on other charges. She escaped to Cuba in 1979, and has been a fugitive since, listed on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list in 2013 pbs.org/newshour/natio… nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/as…

Cardinal Dolan says he spent the past week studying Charlie Kirk’s life, and the more he learned, the more he saw him as a modern-day Saint Paul. A fearless missionary, a passionate evangelist, and a true hero. “When I heard the tragic news, I said, ‘I wonder who he was.’ And then all of a sudden, this overwhelming, this overwhelming sense of sorrow and kind of renewal.” “And I thought, I gotta learn about this guy. And the more I learned about him, I thought, this guy's a modern day Saint Paul. He was a missionary, he's an evangelist, he's a hero.” “He's one that knew what Jesus meant when he said, the truth will set you free. And to do it, Now, I understand he was pretty blunt and he was pretty direct. He didn't try to avoid any controversy. He didn't even try to avoid confrontation. The difference is the way, the mode, the style that he did it, always with respect.”

I know the pain of losing loved ones to assassination. Charlie Kirk stood for life, faith, and truth—unashamed of Jesus. Now is not the time to attack him, but to honor his legacy, pray for his family, and ask: Where will you spend eternity?

On Sunday, FDNY members and leaders took part in the Father Mychal Judge Walk of Remembrance. Hundreds gathered to honor and remember his bravery and dedication. Father Mychal Judge was a Franciscan Friar, Catholic Priest and FDNY Chaplain who rushed to the World Trade Center on 9/11. He offered prayers to the dead and comfort to the injured. He was killed when the North Tower collapsed. We will #NeverForget him.
