The US is really determined to speedrun the worlds most hated admin isnt it?
According to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, President Trump's administration has proposed former Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán as a candidate for UN Secretary-General.
The United States is reportedly counting on Russia and China to support the idea.
The Wall Street Journal notes that Washington not only supported the former Hungarian PM’s decision to enter the race but even suggested the idea to him.
According to a preliminary assessment, Orbán could secure eight votes on the UN Security Council "without much difficulty."
To receive an official recommendation, a candidate must secure at least nine votes from the Security Council's 15 members, with none of the five permanent members (the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France) voting against (i.e., exercising their veto power).
Rumors of Orbán's potential candidacy could be part of the ongoing negotiations between the United States, Russia, and China.
Orbán is seen as a compromise candidate, combining loyalty to President Trump with close ties to Moscow and Beijing.
For Moscow, having its own person in the UN's top administrative position could mean pro-Russian influence within the organization's structures. During his time as PM, Orbán repeatedly criticized and blocked EU sanctions packages against Russia and opposed military assistance to Ukraine.
If Orbán becomes UN Secretary-General, Ukraine and Europe could face increased diplomatic pressure, particularly over sanctions and negotiations on Moscow's terms.
The Office of the UN Secretary-General sets the agenda and prepares official reports. It is possible that under Orbán, UN institutions could shift their focus away from documenting Russian war crimes and violations of international law and instead seek to obstruct the establishment of a special international tribunal and efforts to secure reparations from Russia.

Elon Musk @elonmusk , let me explain something to you. Let’s deal with documented facts, not emotional generalisations.
On 19 October 2026, I personally attended the fourth international conference “Crimea Global. Understanding Ukraine through the South” in Kyiv.
At the panel “Countering the Predator: How to Stop Russia’s Recruitment of Foreigners,” Brigadier General Dmytro Usov, Secretary of Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, presented official Ukrainian data.
As of 1 October 2026, Ukraine had identified 45,959 foreign nationals from 151 countries and territories who had signed contracts with Russia’s military since 2022.
The annual figures presented were:
2022: 94
2023: 4,067
2024: 8,877
2025: 16,085
January–September 2026: 16,168
In just nine months of 2026, Russia recruited more foreigners than during the entire previous year. According to the figures presented, approximately 1,800 foreign nationals are being recruited monthly.
Among the identified recruits were citizens of Colombia, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Peru, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Belarus.
These are not figures I invented. I was personally present when they were presented.
Now let’s examine your claim that Russian soldiers are simply poor children with no choice.
Russia recruits internationally through promises of money, employment and citizenship. Some people knowingly enlist. Others are deceived, pressured or coerced.
According to a survey of foreign prisoners of war presented by Ukrainian authorities, 46.7% of respondents signed contracts seeking Russian citizenship, while 28% did not know they would fight against Ukraine.
These figures concern surveyed foreign prisoners, not every Russian soldier.
Yes, some Russian conscripts face coercion. Their experiences deserve recognition. But that does not justify claiming that everyone fighting for Russia has no choice.
Most importantly, none of this changes the fundamental distinction:
Russia invaded Ukraine. Ukraine did not invade Russia.
Russia’s leadership bears responsibility for launching and continuing this war. Ukrainians are defending their homes, families and sovereignty.
I live in Kyiv. I experience the air-raid alerts, drone attacks and strikes on infrastructure. I see what this war does to ordinary people.
This is not an abstract debate for me. It is my home and my life.
You speak about sympathy for Russian soldiers. Where is your equal concern for Ukrainian civilians who never chose this war? For families who lost their loved ones? For Ukrainians unlawfully detained by Russia?
Compassion for individuals does not erase responsibility for aggression.
Russia can withdraw its invading forces. Ukraine cannot end the invasion by surrendering its right to self-defence.
Before making sweeping claims about who has a choice, examine Russia’s documented recruitment system.
I was there when these figures were presented.
Stop equating the aggressor with the country defending itself.

🇷🇸 One of the strangest images of SERBIA'S ELECTION NIGHT came after Vučić conceded
Riot police who had been stationed around key government buildings began pulling out of central Belgrade as crowds celebrated the student-led opposition victory.

For months, those streets had looked like a government preparing for confrontation.

I have just spoken by phone with the leaders of the Students' List @studentblokade, who won the elections in Serbia, to congratulate them on their victory. I assured them of Hungary’s support. I was delighted to hear how much strength our victory in April had given them during this difficult struggle.

This past week alone, Russia has launched around 1,600 guided aerial bombs, 48 missiles of various types, including ballistic missiles, and nearly 2,300 attack drones against Ukraine. Unfortunately, almost every day, these brutal strikes leave people killed and injured. In the evening, Russian strikes on the Dnipro region killed four people. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 22 people were injured, including an 11-year-old girl. In Vinnytsia, a Russian drone struck a high-rise apartment building. Six people were injured. In Kharkiv, the Russians first struck a home improvement hypermarket and then carried out a cynical double-tap strike on the emergency services that arrived at the scene. First responders were injured. There were also strikes overnight on a thermal power plant, substations, coal mines, grain storage facilities, shopping malls, and a postal logistics hub. Damage has been reported in nine regions.
This is how Russia responds to diplomacy and deisolation. And it is very important that support for those who protect lives not diminish alongside the negotiation process. We need to unblock the deliveries of Patriot interceptors already approved by European countries. We need to continue supporting Ukrainian combat aviation to defend against jet-powered “shaheds.” Every such defense package, especially ahead of winter, helps save lives. I thank all partners who provide this kind of support.

A U.S. Marine Scout Sniper in Afghanistan, working his rifle from a stretcher. It's not a position you'll find in any manual, but in combat, snipers learn to make use of whatever the ground and the moment give them.
Scout Snipers spent much of the war in Afghanistan watching over patrols, observing enemy movement, and taking precise shots at long range in some of the most unforgiving terrain in the world. The job demanded patience, discipline, and the ability to adapt when conditions were anything but ideal.
The setup may be unconventional, but the fundamentals stay the same: a stable position, steady breathing, and a clean trigger press.

The most important thing today is that Starlink and Starshield operations have been restored to the speeds we had before the restrictions. The speeds are now where they need to be. The restoration began overnight, and by this morning, speeds were already sufficient. This matters: for our frontline logistics, for defending Ukraine against jet-powered “shaheds.”
I thank all Americans and all our partners who took this seriously and truly helped – members of Congress, senators, all the media, the State Department, and the President. Protecting lives matters.

I really want our relations – between Ukraine and America, and with all our other partners – to be strong, truly friendly, and without misunderstandings. Because without a strong America that cares about what happens in the world, the world would definitely be a worse place.
These days, people ask why Ukraine is speaking more openly and directly to the world. The answer is simple. We want others to understand us – societies, nations, as many people as possible. When people understand what is really going on, political leaders can take a stronger path – the one that can really bring peace closer. And peace is what we want more than anything.

Trump just invoked the Defense Production Act for oil
A presidential memo signed Thursday declares US petroleum production, refining, pipelines, storage and marine terminals "essential to the national defense," per the White House
It directs the Secretary of War to make purchases, commitments and financial support to expand that capacity, and waives the usual DPA requirements
That replaces an April 20 order that had put the Energy Secretary in charge
Brent crude is near $112.87, up 3.7% today and about 56% above its $72.48 close before the US-Israel strikes on Iran in late February, per Yahoo Finance data
Last week Vance said the DPA would be used to expand a $DK refinery in Texas, and Congress set aside $1 billion in DPA money for energy projects last year, per Reuters
The midterms are 12 days away, and only 36% of Americans approve of Trump's handling of the economy in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll
Handing oil to the Pentagon shows Washington now treats fuel as a wartime supply problem, not a market one. But new wells, pipelines and refinery capacity take years to build, so this does little for $113 Brent before Nov 3

Three waves of ballistic missiles have been launched at Kyiv by Russian “humanitarians” since yesterday evening. They used 21 missiles. Unfortunately, numerous sites across the city have been hit and damaged: ordinary residential buildings, energy facilities, infrastructure at one of the railway stations and the metro, shopping malls, and businesses. Even a monastery is among the damaged sites. Our emergency services are working at all the affected locations. Twelve of our regions came under Russian attack overnight. In Kyiv and across the regions, 34 people were injured, including five children. As of now, two people have been confirmed killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones.
Almost immediately after another round of talks, Russia launched a pointed attack. This means there has been no real change in its attitude toward everything that is happening. It is important to keep trying to find the right solutions to end this war. But when Russia responds to negotiations with ballistic missiles, real pressure on Russia is needed to bring about different steps – steps toward ending the killing. Stronger air defenses and the rapid delivery of missiles, the ability to destroy ballistic missile launchers, sanctions over the war – all of this must be in place. I am grateful to everyone who sees the situation for what it is and acknowledges the reality. The aggressor deserves to be treated accordingly. Ukraine deserves support. People's lives deserve protection. Thank you to everyone who stands with Ukraine!

Trump has decided to hold me—rather than Putin—responsible for all the problems. He claims to his supporters that diesel prices in America are rising because of us, — Zelenskyy.
I find it wrong and unacceptable that Trump blames me for Russian aggression and the crimes committed by Russia. He is distorting the context, and that is unfair. In my view, this is merely an attempt to divert attention from the situation in Iran and events in the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz is blocked—that is the true core of the problem. Yet, all of this is being pinned on us, and I, as head of state, am being made a target.
