The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is a turning point. It marks the beginning of regulatory-led, sustainability-focused trade that affects how the production, sourcing, processing and trade of agricultural commodities work.
There are many school of thoughts around EUDR, and while EUs objectives are very clear, I am firmly on the side of 'Compliance as an Opportunity'. Here are my reasons why suppliers, traders and operators should embrace the coming regulatory tide:
1. Market Differentiation - Conducting Due Diligence across one's supply chain signals competence and builds trust with buyers upto the consumer.
2. Visibility & Traceability - The Due Diligence process is an internal audit that unearths vulnerabilities & strengths, providing structured data that inform better decision-making.
3. Premiums & Revenue - Commodities that undergo Due Diligence command premium prices across markets. This extra revenue is distributed to strengthen and enhance the product(s) supply.
While majority of EUDR discussions only cover the "Deforestation" side - @dimitratech's Due Diligence System exhaustively covers all aspects defined in Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 including risk assessments, mitigations and declarations.
