Comparative Genomics of Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis: Unveiling Viral Fossils and Their Distribution Across the Fungal Kingdom with @KidTrid
Mark completed his B.S. degree in Microbiology at UC Davis in 2016. His professional experience includes research at an agricultural biotechnology company, where he focused on fungal interactions with crop plants. Mark began his doctoral studies in 2020. His dissertation research centers on population genomics of the amphibian pathogenic fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis and the identification of DNA viruses within the Fungal Kingdom.
The San Diego Mycological Society established the Microbiology Award for Excellence in Mycology to be awarded to one meritorious graduate student in the Department of Microbiology and Plant Pathology (MPP) at the University of California, Riverside. @UCRiverside
All aspects of fungal biology and ecology are encouraged. A faculty committee will identify the applicant that has demonstrated excellence in research and creative forward-thinking in their dissertation research.

Chytrid fungi affect human health!
THIS is why Joyce E. Longcore, first to isolate and describe Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd), is the 2022 Distinguished Mycologist.

Such a fantastic time in MI last week at the first UMBS Chytrid workshop! Truly was inspiring being around other Chytrid researchers and learning together how to find and isolate these incredible fungi.
When your dog missed you while you were at a conference so she watches you work all day. Best grad student dog. #PhDog

My buddy @Dylan_J_Enright gave such an incredible and enthusiastic talk about Pyrophilous fungi. We learned that not only are pyrophilous fungi phylogenetically conserved but that they might share traits. #MSAfungi22 P.S check out his paper to read more.
Come check out my poster tonight at #MSAfungi2022 where I’ll be talking about mycoviruses and Chytrid Fungi!

Happy to share that I received Honorable Mention for my 2022 NSF #GRFP application. Although it’s not quite what I had hoped for it was encouraging to see so many positive comments from reviewers.
