Earlier this morning, the Ebola patient in Nigeria and her contact, who is also her husband, were medically evacuated to Switzerland.
The reasons for the evacuation are:
✅ Both the patient and her husband are Swiss citizens.
✅ The patient is clinically stable. The Nigerian medical team successfully managed her through the acute phase of the illness and stabilized her condition.
On behalf of WHO and all partners, I warmly congratulate the Government of Nigeria, health workers, clinicians, emergency responders and all those involved in the response. This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to what Africa can accomplish when we work together.
With the evacuation of the patient and her husband, Nigeria currently has no Ebola cases.
However, vigilance remains critical. Nigeria will continue the close follow-up of 52 contacts, while Switzerland will assume responsibility for the continued management of the patient and the follow-up of contact number 53, her husband.
Congratulations once again to everyone involved. This is a proud moment demonstrating African expertise, resilience, and leadership in public health.

No entanto, é fundamental manter a vigilância.
I Confirm that, with my approval, earlier this morning, the index case for Nigeria’s first imported Ebola virus disease departed Abuja for Switzerland. The index patient was clinically much improved, stable, conscious, communicating, and her clinical laboratory test results closing towards baseline. This does not mean she is not still infectious, hence the strict protocols in place.
The patient was evacuated along with her spouse who has remained asymptomatic.
I thank all the various clinical staff for the high quality care they provided the patient as well as the public health personnel who ensured the evacuation was carried out in line with best public health measures for such evacuations.
We will provide further updates later this afternoon after the patient and her spouse lands successfully in their destination.
All public health measures are continuing to ensure successful containment of the imported virus. I urge Nigerians to remain vigilant and rely on information from credible sources.

Thread summarising what happened with avian influenza in the US. I had expected a full fledged attempt at stopping the spread in cattle. That did not happen. Same for mpox. That makes me conclude we are in for more and not fully prepared
There is something really concerning (and disappointing) going on in the US right now.
A dangerous and preventable situation.
Let me explain.

Wise? Or will this push travelers underground or incentivize border payments?
Uganda has tightened enforcement of Ebola prevention measures, with all those who have travelled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo required to pay for their mandatory 21-day quarantine as authorities move to prevent the disease from spreading across the border. #OpenGovUg

EL-SAYED: I get that the President takes personal offense to my first name. He doesn't mind as much when it's the Saudis who are funding his son-in-law's private equity. Doesn't seem to mind as much when it's the Qataris who are giving them a $400 million private jet. He just seems to have trouble pronouncing it when it's my name.
I don't care how he pronounces my name. I don't even care that he remembers my whole name. Because he can just go on and call me senator after November.

Be prepared and you have no need to fear. Here is a great place to start. Start small with an enough for 72 hours and build. There are some great places online to buy food storage in containers that keep it good for up to 25 years.
There are a million excuses but really none are good. Buy a little at a time, store under the beds and back of closets in your house if you don't have a basement and start preparing your family for any emergency that might come your way.

➡️ Ebola scientists to probe Nigeria case origin, Africa CDC says
- A team of leading Ebola scientists will travel to Nigeria to help investigate how the country’s first patient in more than a decade got infected, Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya said.
- Their task will involve ➡️ trying to work out how the female patient, the Ugandan-born wife of a Swiss diplomat based in Abuja, caught the Bundibugyo species of Ebola. ➡️ Her travel documents show she had not visited the outbreak epicenter in Democratic Republic of Congo, Mr. Kaseya said in an interview with Reuters in London.
- Finding out how she became ill matters to ➡️ ensure that the deadly Bundibugyo outbreak, already the second-largest Ebola epidemic on record, ➡️ is not spreading silently in as-yet undiscovered locations, and to help trace and isolate all contacts.
- ‘MANY UNKNOWNS’
- “We have so many unknowns,” said Mr. Kaseya. “I’m bringing a group of scientists in Abuja because… we need to be led by science.”
- ➡️ One of the theories the scientists will investigate is a potential link between the patient in Nigeria and the first case in Kenya, reported earlier this month in a man who had traveled from Congo. ➡️ On Friday, genomic sequencing showed that the viruses that infected the two patients were closely related.
- The patient in Nigeria had been on holiday in Uganda and traveled through Entebbe Airport on October 3. ➡️ The patient in Kenya, who has since died, was likely in the airport at the same time, as ➡️ their flights were around 40 minutes apart, although they did not depart from the same gate and it is not clear whether they had any contact, Mr. Kaseya said.
- Mr. Kaseya said while genomic sequencing had shown that the viruses were similar, it did not mean that one of the patients had directly infected the other and the patient in Abuja, whose condition is improving, has said she does not remember meeting the Kenya patient.
- However, he said they were not excluding any options, including that there may have been indirect contact through another person, for example. Ebola spreads through close contact with the infected bodily fluids of a person with symptoms, according to the World Health Organization.
- INVESTIGATION ONGOING
- Mr. Kaseya said ➡️ all countries involved were now willing to collaborate in the investigation, after what he described as tension last week when Uganda’s government insisted the patient in Abuja had been to Congo, while Nigerian authorities suggested she had not and was infected in Uganda, which has been Ebola-free since August.
- Mr. Kaseya said the team, which will be led by the co-discoverer of Ebola, Congolese expert Jean-Jacques Muyembe, ➡️ would also look at more sequencing data to work out where the Kenyan patient was infected.
- The Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak in Congo has now caused almost 10,000 cases and more than 4,600 deaths in Congo, and spread to three other countries in Africa – Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda.
- The disease can cause fever, vomiting, diarrhea and, in severe cases, internal and external bleeding. There is currently no approved vaccine or treatment for Ebola Bundibugyo.

➡️ 🇺🇬🇳🇬🇨🇭Nigeria's Ebola patient on medical evacuation flight to Switzerland, condition stable
- ➡️ Nigeria's Ebola patient left the country on a medical evacuation flight to Switzerland on Monday morning, the health minister said, adding that her clinical condition was much improved.
- The patient, ➡️ the Ugandan-born wife of a Swiss diplomat based in Abuja, is Nigeria's first Ebola case in more than a decade.
- The outbreak, which started in Democratic Republic of Congo, has now been reported in four countries in East, Central and West Africa, giving it the widest geographic spread of any Ebola outbreak on the continent to date.
- ➡️ The possibility that the Nigerian patient became infected in Uganda, where officials say she spent a two-week holiday before returning to Abuja, has fuelled concerns about undetected transmission in a country where the outbreak had appeared to be under control.
- Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate said in a post on X that ➡️ the woman was "stable, conscious, communicating, and her clinical laboratory test results closing towards baseline" before her evacuation flight departed.
- ➡️ Her spouse has remained asymptomatic and left Nigeria on the same flight, Pate added.
- The Swiss foreign ministry and Uganda's health ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
- SCIENTISTS INVESTIGATING HOW PATIENT CAUGHT RARE STRAIN
- ➡️ A team of leading Ebola scientists will travel to Nigeria to help investigate how the patient caught the rare Bundibugyo species of Ebola, Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya told Reuters in an interview.
- Switzerland said last week that she had not travelled to Congo, contradicting statements from Ugandan officials.
- ⚠️ Her travel documents show she had not visited Congo, Kaseya said.
- There are no approved vaccines or treatments for the Bundibugyo species, which has now caused almost 10,000 cases and more than 4,800 deaths in Congo, and spread to three other countries in Africa – Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda.
- Kenya has reported nine cases and two deaths, all linked to a man who had travelled from Congo via Uganda's Entebbe airport.
- Uganda reported 20 cases in May and June but has not recorded any since and was declared free of the virus by the World Health Organization in August.
- The WHO's Africa director congratulated Nigeria's government and health workers for stabilising the patient's condition, allowing her to be evacuated.
- "The Nigerian medical team successfully managed her through the acute phase of the illness and stabilized her condition," Mohamed Janabi said on X.

This goes way beyond general national defense preparedness. This has the earmarks of something urgent and much, much larger scale than anything previously contemplated.
Preparations of this nature and magnitude would only be envisioned for an attack on America from a major global power as part of a world war.
Given the urgency with which Pentagon officials are announcing this initiative, I’m worried that they know something is coming and they’re not telling us…
