I love how some men will insist women aren’t marginalized while we’re STILL being blamed for everything men do. Not the person who actually made the vows? Not the one benefitting from the power imbalance? As if she owes the man who violated her boundaries forgiveness, and withholding it somehow makes HER the villain??? Jane Doe goes to a frat party, as college students do, and gets sexually assaulted. Suddenly, the conversation becomes about HER “poor decisions” and how holding the perpetrators accountable might ruin the perpetrators’ futures. Not the assault. Not the men who committed it. HER choices. This is patriarchy. This is what it looks like. Men are given endless grace, excuses, and the benefit of the doubt, while women are expected to carry the blame, manage the fallout, and protect the feelings and futures of the very men who harmed them. And if women refuse to play along? Then we’re accused of being vindictive, unreasonable, or hysterical. Right… Rape culture doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s reinforced by the everyday misogyny that teaches us to empathize with the men who cause harm while scrutinizing the women who experienced it. If your first instinct is to protect a man’s reputation instead of questioning his behavior, you’re not being fair or objective. You’re reinforcing the exact culture that allows this shit to continue. Do better.
