1/4 I built a basketball analytics platform using AI for my team, but my FAVORITE feature is the BUILT-IN AI CHATBOT THAT LETS YOU ASK ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR TEAM. It's called GAME LAB, and all the basketball data comes directly from Hudl Sportscode XML files. The platform turns the information we're already collecting through film into advanced analytics, lineup combinations, player impact ratings, play call efficiency, season trends, and much more. BUT HERE'S WHERE THE AI TAKES IT TO ANOTHER LEVEL. Instead of digging through spreadsheets, filtering through reports, or spending hours trying to find patterns, I can literally have a conversation with my team's data. I can ask: • Why is our Spain PnR struggling? • Which lineups are producing the best offensive rating? • What play calls get us into the paint most often? • How has our turnover rate changed over the last five games? The AI analyzes the coded data, provides actual numbers, identifies patterns, compares results, and gives basketball-specific takeaways. It's more than a dashboard. It's like having an AI basketball analyst that you can ask questions anytime. And the best part? All of this starts with a Sportscode XML export. Here's what I've been building 🧵

This is such a cleverly “organized” tweet. 10 All American’s. 4 Elite International’s 2 solid HS prospects, found school fits and continues to get better and better (Burton & Chen) 1 who would have been an All American but sat out club ball her last summer (Howard)

Ty Jerome said he took less money from Memphis than other teams offered. "The one thing I learned in this business is you want to go where you're most wanted." Spoke about Memphis GM's confidence in him/how he understands his game, & HC Tuomas Iisalo's system being PG friendly

Interesting to compare the investments WNBA teams around the league have made in basketball staff to support the players. Indiana Fever looks like a poverty operation compared to Liberty, Valkyries, and Lynx. If Fever actually aspires to win a championship next year, then they need to invest some of that money Caitlin brought them into improving the staff that supports the players.

Using the word “never” is wild. I might sound like an old man here but your generation has too many resources with Google and AI for you to tweet this at a school like NORTH CAROLINA! Smith Breland Latta DeShields Gray
The UNC women have never had a player like this, someone this clearly talented. It immediately jumps off the screen. Kate Harpring is the player Courtney Banghart needed for the program to take the next step. Going to be awesome to watch Harpring over the next few years.

99% of high school basketball players (and tbh, the majority of college PGs) can’t consistently read the tag defender on ball screens And I’d argue that the ability to read the 3rd layer of defense in itself could, in many situations, immediately take a player from a bench PG to primary ballhandler. Or from mid major to high major. Yet, to be completely honest, outside of ours, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a skill workout in the off-season that involved intentionally building this layer of decision making. Coaches are so stuck on adding more moves, building more handles, or on the flip side, “sticking to the basics” that there are REAL fundamental skills out there being ignored completely…

Dear AAU Parents, Please take a little advice from a parent who has been around AAU basketball as a Coach & parent for 20+ years. Stop chasing imaginary rankings from paid services like PGH and cool social media posts from programs that over hype players on socials because that is all they can offer. Don't get caught up with trainers who are only worried about your children when they are in their gym. Ask real questions of program directors about approach on player development, college relationships and track record of getting players to college programs. Ask directors about recruiting plans for their players. Pay attention to programs that retain players and are not out recruiting over entire rosters year over year. Track record & trust between families & programs matters; especially in a rapidly changing recruiting landscape, you better be with a program that is committed to all their players and not just a few high profile girls. The top of EVERY circuit has really good players/teams but the bottom of EVERY circuit has bad teams too. Being on an EYBL or 3SSB team, and playing 6-8 mpg can really hurt your recruitment. Not every program is a fit for every player/family but PLEASE do your homework!! Have honest discussions about potential level of play in college and where your child might fit. Be very weary of anyone who only talks about D1. Winning games in AAU is nice and hopefully your daughter is competitive and wants to win but it ultimately doesn't mean anything and not many college coaches are paying attention to the score unless one team is getting smoked. In fact, a coach might pay more attention to how your daughter is acting as a player when they are losing vs how they are playing in a 25pt win. Good luck to all as the girls get prepared for the High School season. @nj_panthers @CoachJordanNJP @unitedNJaau @ShoreshotsGirls @newjerseyrise @ESBC_BlueFlames @NJLadiesHoops @TinyGreenNBS @coachschoiceusa

@csteed she’s not a star? This is what I mean when I say you can handpick analytics to tell the story you want to tell. You have to watch.

Man! Texted a contemporary of ours last week. She called new fans “bandwagon” in a victory speech. Huh, you play for a new franchise😳 The week before, she asked the crowd to Too Short her favorite inappropriate word…..for what reason? Mad at the 🌎

Huh??? She was the poster child at UConn.

Every coach has stood on the sideline and wondered why a player isn’t giving full effort. Angela Duckworth offers a better question. High performers carry four thoughts at once: this is interesting, this is important, I can do this, and I know what to try next. If even one of them is missing, full effort goes with it. That changes where we look. A player coasting through a drill may not lack heart at all. They may not see where it shows up in a game, or they may have run out of things to try. Two of those four thoughts are almost entirely in our hands, through how we pitch the challenge and what we say after the rep. This card helps you find the missing thought before you reach for “work harder,” which answers none of them. Print it, keep it on the clipboard, and the next time a drill goes flat, ask which one is missing.

NEW: Duke head coach Manny Diaz tells @AndyAriOn3 that schools should receive a "transfer fee" when players portal: "If you sign a bunch of great recruits and you develop them and they go somewhere else, I'll go back to European soccer. You should receive a transfer fee."

Got to meet the Legend, Sonny Vaccaro at ABCD camp. College & grassroots basketball has grown because of his vision and work. I would not be working in this space for more than 2 decades without him. Blessed to meet and visit with him and his wife!

When my son played, AAU ended mid July and he didn’t play another game until November. We worked our asses off and got better and better. Nowadays, you aren’t getting better you’re getting older. TOO MANY GAMES. Slow basketball death.

Not. True. At. All. Big Ten has a championship. She has @usabasketball gold medals Youth tournaments have championships. This is a poorly researched tweet trying to attack an exceptional athlete. Be a fan. Analyze and debate the nuances of the game. Don’t Do This.
Caitlin Clark hasn’t won a championship since 6th grade rec league.

Work ethic and the right attitude, man. Look what it gets you. Jamal Shead went 45th in that draft. Plenty of guys slide that far and basically start looking for gigs in Europe. Shead went the other way. Put his head down, got better every year, and today Toronto gave him the kind of money guys from his lottery are currently making. And he's not even much of a scorer. Might never be. Doesn't matter, because he does everything else at a high level. Defense, passing, leading that team, suiting up all 82. Winning stuff that don't always jump off the stat sheet. Powerful! I came into the league a second-rounder myself. Sat, waited, worked, had to prove I belonged. So yeah, I know this journey looks easier than it is. Every team's only got room for a scorer or two. Give me a whole roster of Jamal Sheads though. Young fellas coming up, pay attention to this one.
Toronto Raptors guard Jamal Shead has agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract extension with the franchise, his agent KJ Smith tells ESPN. The new deal keeps Shead under contract through the 2029-30 season.
